Division: Medical Services
Location: Baton Rouge LA

Position Information
This position may be filled as either a Probational or a Job Appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a Promotion (open to all statewide classified and agency wide permanent status employees); or by Detail to Special Duty. Current permanent status classified employees may be required to accept a Probational appointment if selected. If filled as a Job Appointment there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a Probational Appointment should funding become available.

Minimum Qualifications

Job Concepts

Function of Work:
To resolve disputes regarding medical benefits entitled to an injured worker through the Louisiana workers compensation laws.

Level of Work:
Advanced.

Supervision Received:
General from Workers Compensation Medical Services Supervisor.

Supervision Exercised:
May exercise supervision over clerical staff.

Location of Work:
Department of Labor Office of Workers Compensation.

Job Distinctions:
Differs from Workers Compensation Medical Services Supervisor by absence of supervisory responsibility.

Examples of Work

Receives evaluates and processes requests for independent medical examinations (IME) from attorneys employers adjusters insurance companies workers compensation judges and claimants.

Reviews cases to determine if the facts exist for an IME and independently writes correspondence concerning the case.

Review files to determine if IME procedures utilization review procedures correct reimbursement of medical bill procedures and other related matters are followed pursuant to currant workers compensation statutes and rules.

Represents the office at workers compensation seminars and conferences.

Assist in analyzing workers compensation laws and regulations for appropriate changes and makes suggestions for changes.

Determines if the Medical Services Section should handle disputes over the continuation of nonemergency medical treatment or if a case needs to be referred to a workers compensation judge.

Evaluates and reviews disputes over medical reimbursement issues with health care providers.

Provide technical assistance and education regarding medical services benefits in accordance with Louisiana workers compensation laws and rules.

Performs other related tasks necessary to ensure the smooth operation of the Medical Services Section.
