The District is a government agency whose mission is to protect water resources minimize flood risks and ensure the publics water needs are met. We serve a population of nearly 6million people in westcentral Florida as directed by state law.

Join our Water Resources Bureau

The Southwest Florida Water Management District (District) a leader in protecting Floridas water resources is seeking an Environmental Specialist Student Intern in support of the Water Resources Bureau. The Environmental Student Intern will support project managers engineers and managers within the Water Supply Section. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Water Supply Section and other Water Resources Bureau team members with statistical analysis data collection and other tasks associated with District projects and programs. At times the successful candidate will assist several project managers within the Water Supply Section and will need to be a selfstarter to experience the diversity of work the Water Supply Section performs. Tasks will include activities such as database entry data collection administrative processing calculations coding GIS processing and map creation. This internship opportunity is not eligible for remote work.

Compensation: $16.00 hourly

Essential Functions

  • Compile data perform appropriate analyses develop and/or produce reports maintain data bases and prepare data for presentation
  • Conducts field work to support water supply projects
  • Assist with processing Public Supply Annual Report (PSAR) data
  • Assist in the evaluation of the economic impacts and cost effectiveness of existing proposed or potential District programs
  • Identify data gathered and analyze data flow for developing efficiencies solutions or alternative methods to improve data quality and data reporting
  • Maintain a positive and selfmotivated attitude towards conducting data entry and developing tables and charts
  • Ability to use appropriate software database and other technology

Working Conditions

Most work is conducted in a standard office environment. This position requires the ability to perform continuous repetitive tasks (to include keyboarding) with one or both hands. Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds. Must be able to operate a District vehicle for two hours or more at a time. May be exposed to extremes in temperature and humidity as well as a variety of pests including mosquitoes and ticks.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Work environments vary by assigned business unit.

Required Credentials for Data Analyst Student Intern

  • Be at least parttime and currently enrolled in an accredited college or university.
  • Maintain a minimum GPAof 2.5 for undergraduate students or minimum GPA of 3.0 for graduate students
  • UploadUnofficialTranscripttoapplication or profile
  • Have the availability to worknear the maximum allowable hours weekly
  • Experience with data collection data entry or database management
  • Valid drivers license

Preferred Credentials forData Analyst Student Intern

  • Preferred Degrees: EconomicsBusinessEnvironmental Science or Engineering
  • Preferred Degree Level:Undergraduate

Application Process

The District will determine eligibility for employment solely from the information provided on a District employment application. Additional Details

This position is typically scheduled to work no more than 25 hours per week 3 days per week between Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM out of the Brooksville FL office. Schedule is contingent upon the decision of the hiring manager and the successful candidate.Work will be conducted at the office for enhanced learning opportunities.
