    The Student Union Inc. is 501(c)3 nonprofit auxiliary that maintains three major facilities at San Jos State University in downtown San Jos California. These facilities include the Diaz Compean Student Union Building the Provident Credit Union Event Center and the Spartan Recreation and Aquatic Center. The Student Union Inc. functions as part of the Student Affairs Division on campus and is governed by a Board of Directors made up of a student majority faculty and administrators.

    Job Summary
    The Guest Services Assistant is responsible for exhibiting excellent customer service and having an indepth knowledge of all Student Union and Spartan Recreation programs. This position oversees the SRAC front entry desk equipment checkout desk and aquatic entry booth during operating hours and monitors facility access. Under the direct supervision of the Membership & Guest Services Supervisor.

    Essential Functions and Tasks
    • Responsible for monitoring student member and guest entry and exit into the Spartan Recreation and Aquatic Center.
    • Provide excellent customer service to all patrons who visit the SRAC.
    • Working knowledge of the Fusion registration system; how the system functions with membership sales locker sales program registrations and reports.
    • Perform daily financial transactions for SRAC programs membership services events; completes financial reconciliations and deposits daily.
    • Assist patrons with registering and navigating the SRAC app and Fusion Member Portal.
    • Assist with guest concerns and issues.
    • Assist with providing tours of the SRAC.
    • Assist with promotional events being held at SRAC including but not limited to tabling special events summer orientation and more.
    • Attend all regularly scheduled staff meetings training days and workshops.
    • Performs additional duties as assigned.

    Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
    • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills ability to manage conflicts.
    • Able to lift 45 pounds safely and stand for an extended period of time.
    • Maintain a professional appearance and attitude.

    Qualification and Specifications
    1. Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification American Red Cross preferred. Online certifications will not be accepted.
    2. Must be a matriculated SJSU student and continuously enrolled at least halftime* during the academic term. *Halftime is defined as follows: Enrollment Status Halftime Units Undergraduate and Post baccalaureate Students 6.08.0 hours/semester
    Physical Demands and Work Environment
    • The position works in an indoor recreation facility programoriented environment.
      1. The physical demands of this position are described below
        1. Sitting walking twisting bending climbing pulling pushing squatting crawling kneeling balancing reaching and coordination (eye hand foot).
        2. Fall (Slip Trip) Conditions that result in falls (impacts) from height or traditional walking and playing surfaces.
        3. Lifting and carrying often 1025lbs frequently 2650lbs occasionally 5075 lbs.
        4. Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone.
        5. Dexterity of hands fingers and wrists to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
    • In general the position works a schedule based on business needs 9 a.m. 5 p.m. Monday Friday and may require evening and weekend work as needed.
    1. When school is in session may work up to but not in excess of 20 hours per week (among all concurrent positions).
    2. When classes are not in session (i.e. summer break) may work up to but not in excess of 40 hours per week.

    Minimum Hourly Salary: $19.00 Maximum Hourly Salary: $21.75
    1. This position is nonexempt from the provisions ofSection 1 of the California Industrial Welfare Commission Orders.
    2. In general the position works a schedule based on business needs and requires early morning evening and weekend work.
    3. When school is in session student assistant may work up to but not in excess of 20 hours per week (among all concurrent positions).
    4. When classes are not in session (i.e. summer break) student assistant may work up to but not in excess of 40 hours per week.

    This position is employed through Student Union at San Jose State University which offers employees to receive 40 hours of sick pay during the calendar year.

    Background Check and Fingerprinting
    Student Union employees are required to undergo and completed a successful background check that includes verification of employment and education as well as a check of criminal records for employment. Candidates for positions where the employee will come in regular contact with minors and cash management will be required to be fingerprinted. This policy includes emergency hires and may also be applicable to volunteers depending on the work they will be doing.

    In some cases the background check will include a credit check and/or a Department of Motor Vehicles check as well as a check of licenses and certificates when applicable. All background checks are conducted through the Student Union thirdparty vendor Accurate Background

    California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act
    All Student Union at San Jose State University employees are considered mandated reporters under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and are required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
