JOB SUMMARY

Hospitality Services is responsible for the planning coordinated development management and implementation of food nutrition and environmental activities programs services and initiatives to the residents of a municipal long term care facility.

You are responsible for assisting the cook in preparing all food served including general menu special diets mealsonwheels and Day Care Residents meals with an emphasis on resident safety and engagement. Work is performed in accordance with Public Health regulations Fixing LongTerm Care Act 2021 and Food Premises Act.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of Grade ten 10 and the Assistant Cook Certification program 15 weeks)

One 1 year of Cooking experience at an institution health care restaurant or hospitality setting or related organization

KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of the Canada Food Guide Ontario Public Health Act (Health Protection and Promotion Act: Food Premises) Fixing LongTerm Care Act 2021 Food Premises and the Sanitation Code for Canadas Food Industry.
  • Preparation of bulk food
  • Preparation and cooking of vegetables meat fish and poultry soups and sauces
  • Elementary dessert preparation
  • General knowledge of buffet preparation
  • Preparatory methods of entrees
  • Food Inventory Control
  • Knowledge of safe operations of kitchen tools
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation including the rights and duties of workers

  • Language Requirement:Various language requirements locations may require English only French only OR Bilingual competencies. Some positions require English oral reading and writing. Some positions required French oral reading and writing.
  • Police Record Check:The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawas satisfaction.; Note: Under the age of 18 requires a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters check in place of the Vulnerable Sector Check.; Police record checks completed by a thirdparty company will not be accepted.
