POWER COMPONENTS ENGINEER MECHANICAL (STARSHIP)

The Starship power components team supports the mission to revolutionize orbital flight and space travel opening access for humankind to establish new frontiers in space and ultimately become a multiplanetary species. Our team builds some of the most advanced electronics ever flown in space at a cost and rate previously considered unthinkable in the space industry. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as the responsible engineer and extreme owner for the design analysis fabrication and qualification of highvoltage batteries traction inverters power generation power distribution and other electromechanical components.
  • Thermal structural dynamic and tolerance analysis for electromechanical assemblies using both hand calculations and finite element analysis
  • Participate in initial mechanical design 3D models and creation of production drawings and design data maintenance
  • Failure analysis of components as it relates to thermal loads vibration and shock
  • Interface with machine shops and production teams to ensure final designs can be produced in accordance with overall project goals
  • Own the hardware delivery timeline and success through inception design assembly test and integration
  • Participate in internal design reviews and reviews with suppliers and customers

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering electrical engineering aerospace engineering math engineering or scientific discipline
  • Experience with mechanical/electromechanical hardware design and analysis

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong firstprinciples understanding of engineering fundamentals
  • Handson experience with electromechanical design prototyping testing and/or precision mechanical assembly
  • Experience in the use of hand calculations finite element analyses (FEA) and computeraided design software (CAD) in component design
  • Solid understanding and application of GD&T
  • Basic domain knowledge of power component design fundamentals (e.g. motors inverters batteries solar or energy storage systems)
  • Exposure to high volume production designs with a focus on design for manufacturability
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to work well in an integrated team including daily interactions with technicians engineers managers and suppliers

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be willing to travel as needed to Starbase launch facility Brownsville TX
  • Extended hours and weekend work may be required to support critical project and mission milestones

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay Range:
Power Component Engineer Mechanical/Level I: $95000.00 $115000.00/per year
Power Component Engineer Mechanical/Level II: $110000.00 $130000.00/per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a casebycase basis and may vary based on the following considerations: jobrelated knowledge and skills education and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for longterm incentives in the form of company stock stock options or longterm cash awards as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
