Summary:

The job of AQUATICS SUPERVISOR is done for the purpose of providing oversight of pool operations and to ensure efficient community use which promotes positive public relations between the school district and community members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lifeguard and teach swimming lessons based on assigned schedule.
  • Mange public relations problems in an appropriate and professional manner. Ability to discern when to call for help in emergency situations.
  • React quickly and decisively in an emergency and to followup appropriately to insure the continuation of patron and staff safety. Ability to discern when to notify the chain of command about pool emergencies.
  • Correct minor mechanical or system problems in a calm and effective manner.
  • Coordinate staff when needed: assig tasks coordinate staff response to emergencies and activating the Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) in place.
  • Secure the building count and deposit money safely and prepare the building for opening.
  • Work alongside other staff earning their respect and setting an exemplary performance standard for others to follow.
  • Willingness to do any reasonable task necessary to keep the pool running smoothly and safely.
  • Demonstrate maturity and humility in a supervisory role.
  • Report personnel matters in a discreet effective manner to the Pool Supervisor.
  • Clean and sanitize the facility throughout the shift as well as prepare the facility for the next day/use cycle.
  • Teach any level of swimming lessons and set a good example for less experienced instructors.
  • Positively assist other instructors and lifeguards who need guidance.
  • Assist in teaching of professional level courses in Lifeguarding CPR and AED
  • Work flexible hours depending on the programs needs.
  • Cope with stressful situations and emergencies.
  • Communicate when work orders need to be placed.
  • Attend supervisor meetings as directed/required.
  • Use computer processing tools to set up and maintain spreadsheets and/or databases for:
    • Cleaning
    • Lesson student tracking
    • Registration documents and skill sheets/rosters

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Minimum Qualifications

Skills Knowledge and Abilities:
SKILLS are required to perform multiple technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meetchanging job conditions. Specific skillbased competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the jobinclude: operating standard office equipment including utilizing Point of Sale software applications; developing effective working relationships.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform review and interpret technical information write technical materials and/or speakpersuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specificknowledgebased competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: human resourcesprocessing and procedures; excellent oral and written communication; organizational and time management; conflictresolution skills; pertinent codes policies regulations and/or laws; current and developing technology.

ABILITY is required to routinely gather collate and/or classifydata; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others ina wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing a variety of complex processes; and operate equipment using avariety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with significant diversity of individuals and/or groups;work with data of widely varied types and/or purposes; and utilize job related equipment. Independent problem solving isrequired to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires analysis based on organizationalobjectives; and problem solving with equipment is significant. Specific abilitybased competencies required tosatisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; meeting deadlines andschedules; setting priorities; working as part of a team; flexible to changing conditions; making quick and accuratedecisions; working with multiple projects; dealing with frequent interruptions and changing priorities; maintainingconfidentiality; and facilitating communication between person with frequent divergent positions.

Working Environment:
The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: some liftingcarrying pushing and/or pulling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 50 sitting 25 walking25 standing. This job is usually performed in a sometimes wet generally clean and healthy environment.

Experience:

  • Pool management experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of pool chemistry/maintenance preferred.
  • Accounting/banking experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management experience.

Education:

  • High school diploma some college preferred
  • Two years of college preferred or equivalent work experience.

Clearances:

  • Criminal justice fingerprint/background clearance;
  • Certificates & Licenses;
  • Aquatic Facility Operator certificate (AFO) and Water Safety Instructor (WSI);
  • Red Cross lifeguard certification first aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.

Continuing Education/Training:

  • CPR and WSI recertification annually;
  • Lifeguard recertification every 2 years;
  • AFO recertification every 5 years;
  • Inservice training as outlined in Washington Administrative Code 12/15.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

Generally the job requires 60 sitting 20 walking and 20 standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations a generally hazard free environment and in a clean atmosphere.

Certificates:

  • Valid Washington State Drivers License required (must be able to fulfill all traveling requirements of this position including possessing and maintaining a valid license and automobile insurance when using a personal vehicle for District business).
