Job Description:
This position is responsible for general mechanical engineering structural and thermal analysis of power switchboards and circuit breakers for Navy based electronic systems. Knowledge of mechanical layout and packaging of such systems is necessary. Given the system complexity the associated responsibilities and assignments require the exercise of considerable initiative planning and independent judgment. He/she shall demonstrate technical acuity which encompasses interpretation of specifications/requirements and resolution of complex mechanical design and analysis problems.Shall be able to lead mechanical engineering design efforts on a project.
Essential Functions:
- Reviews and interprets specifications and requirements to determine structural thermal and safety critical characteristics/considerations for the mechanical designs.
- Prepares material and labor cost estimates for proposed designs and proposals.
- Works directly with all engineering supporting disciplines from concept through final product design and production.
- Responsible for project budget/schedule adherence for assigned tasks.
- Will be responsible for all aspects of mechanical design and analysis. These efforts include thermal analysis structural analysis electronics packaging and mechanical concepts for new and updated products.
- Coordinates and reviews the work of the program design team provides direction for design and analysis details and supports the preparation of mechanical drawings.
- Supports manufacturing build and qualification testing requirements as needed.
- Reviews and approves project documentation change requests etc. and ensures appropriate documentation on projects.
- Processes and manages new/design changes on assigned projects using PLM system.
- Interfaces with customers vendors and production to develop product requirements and solutions.
- U.S. Citizenship required at this site.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical orAerospace Engineering with minimum 5 years of prior related experience;
- or Master of Science degree in Mechanical orAerospace Engineering with minimum 3 years of prior relevant experience. Must haveexperience and/or training in mechanical engineering.
- Or In lieu of a degree minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
- Able to obtain and maintain an Active U.S. DoD Security Clearance
- 4 years experience using 3D CAD software tools in design function Solidworks preferred or equivalent modeling software (solid modeler) experience a must.
- 4 years of experience with structural analysis software ANSYS Workbench preferred or equivalent. The candidate must be familiar with software modules for static dynamic and modal analysis.
- 2 years of experience in military and/or industry specifications and standards pertaining to design testing hardware material and processes.
- 2 years of experience in Commercial/Navy/Military Specifications for environmental qualification testing.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Experience working with Power Switchboard or similar med/highvoltage/highpower type equipment
- Skilled in vibroacoustic and acoustic design of electronic enclosures (highly desirable)
- Demonstrated ability to lead and execute own tasks with minimal guidance
- Experience with additive manufacturing materials and techniques
- Ability to lead others in design team and execute tasks ontime and onbudget
- Excellent technical writing skills demonstrated through authorship of technical documentation such as design reports test procedures etc.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
