Position Summary
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Student Affairs the Senior Executive Director for Academic Advising and Student Support provides leadership for academic advising and student services in the Gillings School of Global Public Health. This position manages academic advising staff to include assistant directors and academic coordinators overseeing all aspects of academic advising to promote student success academic excellence retention and degree or program completion. This position works collaboratively with key stakeholders to implement oversee and assess advising programming and interventions and support services aimed at assisting student development and persistence towards degree or program completion. The Sr. Executive Director sets standards establishes operational and programmatic goals streamlines processes for the effective and timely provision of services to students and works with others to enforce academic policies improve administrative procedures and decides petitions regarding exemptions and exceptions to academic rules and graduation requirements.
Required Qualifications Competencies And Experience
Demonstrated experience in academic advising or student support services. Prior experience managing academic advising staff including recruiting training or mentoring. Demonstrated understanding of higher education policies student success initiatives and/or retention strategies. Familiarity with compliance regulations FERPA Title IX etc. and institutional policies related to advising and/or student services.
Preferred Qualifications Competencies And Experience
5 years of management experience in a university environment at a professional level with direct experience in staff development and supervision with significant engagement with both undergraduate and graduate students. Masters degree with specific training and experience in counseling or student affairs. Excellent interpersonal organizational and verbal and written communication skills. Experience working with diverse student constituencies; and demonstrated ability to work creatively with institutional policies and apply sound judgment in dealing with administrative issues.
