This position is located in Jefferson La (East Bank). The Veterans Assistance Regional Manager for the Southeast Region manages all parish Veterans Contact Assistance programs in the region assigned. This incumbent will have direct subordinates and receives direct supervision from the Deputy Assistance Secretary for Contact Assistance.
The position will be filled by promotion of a permanent LDVA employee.

DisqualificationMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Seven years of experience in veterans service work administrative services or social services; OR
Six years of fulltime experience in any field plus four years of experience in veterans service work administrative services or social services; OR
A bachelors degree plus four years of experience in veterans service work administrative services or social services; OR
A masters degree plus three years of experience in veterans service work administrative services or social services.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of fulltime work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.
NOTE:
Incumbent may be required to provide a DD214 as evidence of being an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Armed Forces who served on an active fulltime basis.

To manage all veterans assistance offices in an assigned region the New Orleans Claims Office or administers the States Veterans Assistance Programs.

Supervision Received:
Broad review from the Veterans Assistance Deputy Director.
Supervision Exercised:
Direct over Veterans Assistance Counselor Supervisors and clerical employees.

Job Distinctions:
Differs from Veterans Assistance Counselor Supervisor by the presence of responsibility for managing a region the New Orleans Claims Office or administering State Veterans Assistance Programs.
Differs from Veterans Assistance Deputy Director by the absence of responsibility for assisting in directing all Department activities.
Supervises all employees of the veterans contact assistance program in a region of the state the New Orleans Claims Office or administers the States Veterans Assistance Programs.
Administers the State Educational Assistance Program the State Military Bonus Program and other applicable Veterans Assistance programs by establishing verifying applicant eligibility and process to completion.
Prepares all news releases and publishes the Departmental publication SERVO.
Analyzes all changes in veteran laws and regulations issued by state and federal authorities. Prepares and distributes technical bulletins to keep all employees advised of changes in federal/ state laws and regulations.
Plans organizes and implements a statewide training program for Veterans Assistance Counselors through assessing training needs identifying resources establishing priorities designing/delivering training and evaluating training results.
Prepares the budget for the region or area.
Inspects the parish offices to determine compliance with policies procedures rules and regulations.
Promotes Veterans Assistance programs by meeting/addressing organizations civil groups and public officials.
Reviews the most complex and controversial claims submitted by subordinates.
Assigns Veterans Assistance Counselors to parish offices to relieve absent officers.
