This vacancy is located at the New Orleans Regional Office in New Orleans Louisiana.

TEMPORARY JOB APPOINTMENT This position will be filled by temporary job appointment. Should a permanent position become available the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.

The Probation and Parole Supervisor Juvenile has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $2304.00 Biweekly $28.80 hourly).

No Civil Service test scoreis required in order to be considered for this vacancy.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years of experience as a juvenile probation or parole officer plus one of the following:

1. Three years of experience in corrections or law enforcement; or
2. Six years of fulltime experience in any field; or
3. A bachelors degree.

OR

Two years of experience as a juvenile probation or parole officer plus a masters degree in counseling psychology social work education business administration public administration or a criminal justice field.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of fulltime work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Possession of a current Louisiana drivers license.

This position may require the incumbent to handle and carry firearms.

Successful completion of the Corrections Juvenile ServicesAgent Curriculum.

Job Concepts

FUNCTION OF WORK:
To supervise the assessment of the risks and needs of adjudicated youth the development of service plans and the provision of treatment services for youth that have been assigned to the agency.

LEVEL OF WORK:
Supervisor.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Broad review from a Probation and Parole District ManagerJuvenile.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Direct over Probation and Parole Officers 1 2 and 3Juvenile.

LOCATION OF WORK:
Department of Public Safety and Corrections Office of Juvenile Justice.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Probation and Parole Officer 3Juvenile by the presence of direct supervisory responsibility.

Differs from Probation and Parole District Manager 1Juvenile by the absence of managerial responsibilities for an entire district.

Examples of Work

EXAMPLES BELOW ARE A BRIEF SAMPLE OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE. NOT ALL POSSIBLE TASKS ARE INCLUDED.

Supervises assigned subordinate Probation and Parole OfficersJuvenile within a district office.

Holds periodic conferences with assigned subordinates for the purpose of reviewing the handling of every case for which they are supervising.

Initiates performance appraisals of assigned subordinate staff in the regional office on a semiannual basis.

Submits reports to and holds conferences with the district manager at the latters request for matters pertaining to the development and delivery of services.

Works closely with officials of the juvenile justice system other state agencies and correctional institutions in developing and articulating plans and procedures involving the assessment assignment and delivery of services to youth and their families.

Assists with planning and conducting staff meetings and conferences for subordinate staff.

Assumes a leadership role in the conduct of case staffings concerning the most appropriate assignment of juvenile offenders to treatment programs.

Determines work assignments and coordinates work flow and duty assignments of subordinates.

Assesses ongoing staff training needs plans and presents staff development programs and coordinates participation in agency training programs.

May act as district manager as needed.

Interprets the work of the office to local news media civic groups etc.

Assists other agency programs as needed or requested by the district manager.

Reviews and approves service plans for juveniles submitted by subordinates.

Provides support to lowerlevel officers in the field and in court on arrests and transports as well as escape apprehensions.

Provides support to staff in the Secure Care Facilities when needed.
