Job Description

Associate Aerospace Technician Fabrication Specialist

Boeing Defense Space and Security (BDS) is hiring for an Associate Aerospace Technician (Fabrication Specialist Level B). These positions are with the SLS Core Stage and are based at the NASA Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans LA.

Boeing and NASA are building the worlds largest rocket for human exploration of deep space. The Space Launch System (SLS) provides a critical heavylift capability powering people and cargo beyond our moon and into deep space to enable diverse exploration science and security missions. Boeing is the prime contractor for the design development test and production of the massive core stage and development of the avionics.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Performs machine setup machining welding setup welding sheet metal fabrication and extrusion tube bending and fabrication tasks.
  • Performs composite layup fabrication and assembly tasks.
  • Assembles precision mechanical and electromechanical components.
  • Assembles repairs modifies and installs various power plants and drive trains.
  • Perform soldering on electronic and avionics products.
  • Assembles and installs wire harnesses and avionics products.
  • Prepares test articles fixtures and data collection devices to perform various tests.
  • Performs basic organic chemical conversion and paint preparation.
  • Applies routine organic coatings for corrosion protection and appearance requirements.
  • Works on articles of limited complexity following established drawings and requirements.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Willingness to work in variable shift; including days evenings nights and weekends.
  • Experience working in a dynamic and confined space for prolonged periods of time.
  • More than 1 year of experience or training in reading and interpreting drawings or blueprints.
  • More than 1 year of experience in aerospace fabrication or manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Previous experience with NASA Program and/or other aerospace customers
  • Manufacturing experience in human spaceflight spaceflight or aircraft hardware
  • Experience in installation and handling of tubes valves fittings
  • Experience on humanrated spacecraft hardware
  • Experience in a clean room environment
  • Experience in Structural assembly with an emphasis on match drilling aluminum titanium and composite materials
  • Experience with tubing and ducting installation

Additional Information:

  • This is a NASA safetysensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain a clearance for access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility.

Travel:

Position may require travel up to 10 of the time

Shift:

This position is for variable shift. There may be additional shift requirements to support program objectives
