Job Description

What Your Day Will Look Like:

Imagine a day where your passion for aquatic ecology meets practical engineering challenges. Youll focus on the environmental approvals process for a range of industries including transportation linear infrastructure land development and energy/power resources. Youll also provide oversight of technical staff and information on projects and provide critical thinking and analysis across disciplines to provide effective management of ecological tasks and projects.Throughout the day youll collaborate with terrestrial ecologists engineers planners and regulatory specialists ensuring that every project integrates sound ecological principles with innovative engineering solutions. Your work will directly impact sustainable development balancing infrastructure needs with the protection of Canadas natural landscapes.

What Youll Do:

  • Oversee project teams to conduct detailed aquatic ecological surveys and field assessments to evaluate project impacts on local ecosystems.
  • Develop and implement environmental monitoring programs in line with provincial and federal regulations.
  • Analyze field data using GIS and other analytical tools to inform project planning and design.
  • Lead proposal and proposal preparation and review comprehensive technical reports environmental impact assessments and habitat restoration plans.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate ecological considerations.
  • Liaise with government agencies regulatory bodies and stakeholders to ensure compliance and foster positive community relationships.
  • Mentor and support junior staff sharing expertise in ecological assessment and project management.
  • Stay current with industry best practices emerging technologies and environmental regulations to continually enhance project outcomes.
  • Build and maintain internal and external client relationships and work with the senior leadership team to help drive the business plan.
  • Some travel and overtime.

What Youll Need:

  • Degree in Ecology Biology Environmental Science or a related field.
  • 10 years of progressive experience in aquatic ecological assessments environmental impact studies or habitat restoration in consulting.
  • Experience working with Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) obtaining authorizations and letters of advice and experience working with Conservation Authorities.
  • Experience managing projects and clients as well asexperience in the collection and analysis of field data data organization and management.
  • Strong working knowledge of standard field protocols for a range of ecological surveys and previous experience working in ecosystems within Ontario.
  • Knowledge of and experience with interpreting environmental policies and legislation and obtaining permits and approvals (e.g. the Provincial Policy Statement Endangered Species Act Species at Risk Act official plans etc..
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Indepth knowledge of federal and provincial environmental legislation and best practices for compliance.
  • Proven ability to lead projects and mentor team members.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience in preparing technical reports and presentations.
  • Strong project management skills including the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously as well as all aspects of project development and delivery (i.e. proposal through to deliverables including time and budget management).
  • Valid Ontario drivers licence is required.
