Who We Are

Imagine Swimming is NYCs premier learntoswim school sharing a love of the water from infants to adults. Imagine was founded in 2002 by Casey Barrett a Canadian Olympian and AllAmerican and Lars Merseburg a member of the German National Swim Team who met in New York City after completing their NCAA and international swimming careers.

The Imagine family is diverse and international. What unites us is our love for swimming. While backgrounds will always vary everyone on staff shares the same language of the water. Our creative childled environment is guided by the needs of the students in each class with an emphasis on learning through having fun in the water. Imagine Swimming features highly developed teaching methods and rigorous training however it is the teachers in the moment who must pass on our mantra safe fun for life.

What We Are Looking For

Imagine Swimming is currently seeking Swim Instructors who can work weekdays mornings and weekends at our locations in Manhattan and our location in Brooklyn in Crown Heights through May until the end of August. You must be 18 years of age or older to apply. Previous aquatic teaching experience of 23 years is required and a competitive swimming background is a plus. Most importantly we are seeking educators who emphasize individuality in the belief that its the Singer not the Song and the presentation of the lesson is everything.

Since our founding in 2002 the Imagine Swimming family has grown up and are proud to have graduated over 25000 children.

Founded in 2002 by former worldranked swimmers Casey Barrett and Lars Merseburg from Canada and Germany Today Imagine Swimming is now the best of its class with 11 locations throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn that connecting thousands of children and families to the water every day.

OUR APPROACH Imagine Swimming adheres to the teachings of Reggio Emilia method of education an Italian educational philosophy that places emphasis on focusing on the child fostering imagination and encouraging their interaction with the natural world. Many of New York Citys top preschools have adopted this principle in their curriculum and we see this best expressed in the water where every sense is engaged and the opportunities for exploration and growth are endless.

With highlydeveloped teaching methods and rigorous training its the teachers in the moment who must pass along this love and knowledge of swimming longterm. Our 80person instructor team reflect the New York City community itselfdiverse ambitious top notch and we consider ourselves fortunate to celebrate the aquatic world together. Sharing this love of the water is at the core of swim lessons at Imagine rooted in play and creativity and informs our mantra: Safe. Fun. For life.
