CTE Teacher 10.5 month (either lab maintenance or CTSO leadership)

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position in collaboration with other stakeholders develops and implements a rigorous technology education program and provides co curricular educational services for students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Graduate from an accredited college or university in an approved program of study.
2. Holds or is eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in the appropriate area (Business and IT Technology Education Health and Medical Science Computer Science Family and Consumer Science or JROTC instructor approval)
3. Possesses outstanding knowledge and skill in the assigned instructional area and demonstrates enthusiasm for teaching and learning in a projectbased environment.
4. Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication with all stakeholders and staff. This includes the ability to communicate with diverse audiences to foster professional relationships.
5. Demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
6. Experience working directly with individuals and families from diverse racial ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
7. Familiarity with equity and inclusion frameworks. Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities. Respects the worth dignity and individual differences of others.
8. Proficiency in the use of a variety of office/instructional equipment and technology with experience using Microsoft Office Google Workspace and email.
9. Demonstrates leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students teachers administrators and the community.
10. Experience operating and teaching appropriate tools for the content area.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Knowledge of CTE curriculum to facilitate projectbased learning.
2. Builds a classroom culture in which students learn technology education through projectbased handson and experiential means.
3. Prepares students to follow a rigorous pathway from novice to advanced classes by motivating them to engage in properly leveled coursework that empowers individuals to think critically and take ownership of their advancement.
4. Support students in co curricular activities related to the CTE area.
5. Develops strong relationships with local businesses for student mentorship and partnership opportunities.
6. Prepares students for college and career by developing their skills/competencies according to a stateapproved list in each course.
7. Designs engaging lessons that inspire students to do their best work in an inquirybased or projectbased instructional framework.
8. Follows all industry standard precautions to protect students staff equipment materials and facilities.
9. Follows VDOE and industry best practices for lab spaces safety and equipment. Follows appropriate safety procedures and properly maintains equipment.
10. Maintains appropriate state licensure; assumes responsibility for and participates in staff development (professional growth) and training to keep materials supplies and skills uptodate.
11. Actively participates in and attends all required meetings.
12. Maintains confidentiality when appropriate.
13. Complies with and supports school division policies regulations procedures and the HCPS Strategic Plan.
14. Effectively performs other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
15. For additional 10 days of contract (to be negotiated with supervisor) EITHER:
1. Clean maintain and inventory laboratory equipment (Technology Education FACS or health science) OR
2. Lead an active chapter of the affiliated Career Technical Student Organization (CTSO) including maintaining appropriate paperwork and accompanying students to local regional and national events and competitions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Light work lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently. Must effectively interact with students staff and community members. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surroundings and activities; and subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Regular contact with staff members is required. Travel may be required including on weekends and in summer months. Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
