Job Description
The University of Nevada Reno is recruiting for a Plumber 1 for the Facilities Maintenance Services Department (FMS). The position is responsible for performing journeylevel plumbing maintenance and repair of buildings structures fixtures and equipment.
Duties include (but are not limited to):
Test repair and maintain all fixtures and applications valves pumps faucets institutional applications such as medical labs chemistry labs health care facilities and/or backflows;
Recognize dangerous chemicals or asbestos that may become airborne and cause a hazard to the general public and fellow workers during maintenance or repair;
Follow blue prints and oral instructions for demolition or installation of fixtures equipment piping and/or backflows;
Attend applicable safety trainings and maintain all required certifications;
Properly use and maintain tools and equipment while following safety regulations;
Perform administrative tasks via iPad or computer; and
Other duties as assigned.

This position requires the completion of a recognized plumbing apprenticeship program; OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066 this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a preemployment screening for controlled substances.
A valid Class C drivers license or higher operators license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Physical Demands
This position requires walking or standing to a significant degree and pushing and/or pulling. Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
This position requires working with and around hazardous building materials containing asbestos and solvents; biohazards; frequent lifting climbing moving and installing of heavy objects many in awkward confined restricted or high locations; and exposure to noxious odors bloodborne pathogens and hot and cold temperatures when working inside or outside.
This position requires the ability to see hear and communicate through speech.
Schedule
The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs. This position may be able to elect an alternative work schedule.
This position is part of the Facilities Services Weather Essential Personnel and may be required to report to work for their regularly scheduled shift without any phone/cell phone notification; and is subject to a variable workweek schedule.
This position is designated as Essential Personnel. In the event of a campus emergency special event closure to maintain campus safety or building operations this position may be required to work outside of regularly scheduled hours.
Compensation Grade
Grade 31
In classified service salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment the candidates qualifications internal equity and budgets. A request to accelerate salary must be approved by Human Resources and abide by the Nevada Administrative Code.
