School Psychologist Job Description
Job Summary
The School Psychologist role supports the academic and socialemotional growth of students. To meet this need School Psychologists practice within a sciencepractitioner model collecting and using data at the school staff and student levels to guide and support full and effective use of researchbased instructional practices.
Essential Functions
- Engage as an active member of the school psychologist team to continually improve practices and procedures that meet the needs of staff parents and students of Clover Schools;
- Support schoolwide initiatives such as Multitiered Systems of Support and Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports;
- Collect data that guides proactive and strategic planning and use of best practices in instruction for academic and socialemotional/behavior needs for both special and general education students;
- Use researchbased or informed practices to support staff students and parents;
- Actively coach and support staff in effective problemsolving and decisionmaking;
- Facilitate discussion related to student and staff needs within a multisystem framework of support;
- Provide direct and indirect support (counseling skill training) to students related to socialemotional and/or behavioral needs;
- Provide coaching scaffolded support and performance feedback to teams staff and other school members regarding effective and efficient use of researchbased practices;
- Effectively and efficiently share data that facilitates problemsolving and action planning with teams;
- Coordinate with external stakeholders including community agencies (e.g. medical judicial social services mental health care providers) to identify and monitor delivery and use of effective practices;
- Use data to review current practices relative to fit and feasibility that drive ongoing improvement relative to contextual demands;
- Participate in meetings workshops and seminars as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or collecting information required to perform functions;
- Prepare a wide variety of written materials (e.g. behavior intervention plan functional behavior assessments evaluation reports outcomes of data collection correspondence with parents) for the purpose of documenting activities providing written references and/or conveying information;
- Conduct needs assessments initiative inventories and/or environmental scans to assess needs fit and feasibility of system or schoollevel interventions or supports;
- Review research on strategies or practices to determine potential impact on student or systemlevel outcomes;
- Review research to identify evidencebased practices to support students needs;
- If appropriate supervise interns practicum students and others for the purpose of monitoring performance providing for professional growth and achieving overall objectives of schools curriculum.
Required Skills Knowledge and Abilities
Specific skills required to perform functions of the role that facilitate the learning and development of staff and students. Engages in problemsolving and supports and advocates for effective use of evidencebased practices to address the needs of the school staff and students. Openness and willingness to collaborate and cocreate systems of support for students and schools within a team context are required.
Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includesknowledge and skills regarding social emotional cognitive physical language and academic development in children which affect the learning process. The use of advanced intervention prevention problemsolving data collection and followup techniques and processes rests upon an ongoing improvement mindset.
Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includeworking as part of a team maintaining confidentiality; communicating with diverse groups meeting deadlines and schedules setting priorities skills working with technology including Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Word PowerPoint Excel) and virtual meeting platforms; and working with frequent interruptions.
