As our Sr. Legal Counsel youll be carrying out responsibilities in the Legal Department of Canfor and Canfor Pulp under the guidance of Associate General Counsel and Assistant Corporate Secretary Legal including:
- Providing expert legal guidance and support across a wide range of corporate commercial and regulatory matters in the forest products industry.
- Delivering strategic legal solutions that align with Canfors business objectives ensuring compliance mitigating risks and enabling the companys growth.
A day in the life of the Sr. Legal Counsel includes:
- Provide legal advice on corporate commercial and regulatory matters including updates on corporate governance to ensure alignment with the companys legal strategy and objectives.
- Draft review and negotiate contracts transactional documents while assisting with significant transactions such as mergers acquisitions and the establishment of joint ventures or partnerships.
- Prepare coordinate and provide guidance on public disclosure materials.
- Identify and mitigate legal risks manage dispute resolution processes and respond to regulator inquiries to protect the companys interests.
- In appropriate circumstances coordinate the use of outside counsel on specialized legal issues and regulatory matters.
- Provide support on a variety of corporate matters including tax banking policy development and corporate secretarial functions while addressing ad hoc legal assignments as needed.
For this role youll come equipped with:
- BC Qualified Solicitor with at least 4 years of experience gained in private practice and/or inhouse.
- Strong working knowledge of corporate and commercial laws and regulations.
- Experience working with public companies in Canada.
- Experience in the natural resources or manufacturing sector and knowledge of forestry regulations an asset.
- International legal credentials with experience in United States or European legal matters is preferred but not essential.
- Excellent problemsolving analytical and organizational skills.
- Active listener and a business collaborator who is pragmatic selfdriven and resourceful.
- Strong communicator who is discrete and diplomatic.
- Detail oriented with excellent contract drafting and negotiation abilities.
- Able to work under pressure to meet deadlines including experience in quickly modifying priorities to meet unexpected and sometimes competing deadlines.
- Experience with complex crossborder transactions and international legal matters an asset.
The salary range for this position is: $98000.00$122500.00
