The Opportunity:

This is a Limited Duration Assignment (LDA). Limited Duration Assignments are expected to last up to two 2 years but may end sooner.

WIC is a program focusing on nutrition education breastfeeding support health and diet screening growth monitoring and program referrals for pregnant breastfeeding and postpartum women infants and children up to 5 years of age. WIC serves families from many different cultural and ethnic traditions languages backgrounds and abilities. It is designed to promote positive health outcomes strengthen life course nutrition and health and reduce health disparities in the populations served.

The Women Infants and Children (WIC) Nutrition Assistant completes the WIC eligibility and certification process which includes enrollment health screening growth monitoring diet screening nutrition focused counseling goal setting food benefit issuance and follow up planning. In addition they promote breastfeeding and provide education and support around lactation. Nutrition Assistants also facilitate group classes help connect participants with programs and services in the community and participate in community outreach and committee activities.

All services are provided using participant centered communication skills in a culturally relevant manner. This position will serve WIC families from many different traditions cultures and backgrounds.

This position requires the ability to read write and speak in Ukrainian and English.

As the Nutrition Assistant your responsibilities will include:

Certification of WIC Participants

  • Conduct health screenings and assessments including height weight blood pressure iron vision hearing and dietary intake.

  • Nutrition education and counseling including personalized meal plans and breastfeeding guidance.

  • Income and residency verification nutritional risk assessment and WIC eligibility determination and enrollment.

  • Documentation and record keeping.

Nutrition Education

  • Enroll clients in nutrition and education classes.

  • Facilitate group WIC classes using approved lesson plans.

  • Set up class space and provide necessary materials.

  • Review and update education and training materials.

  • Document client feedback.

  • Use participantcentered counseling.

Community Referrals Support and Outreach

  • Research and connect with current and new/possible external resources to offer clients a vast array of diverse services and programs.

  • Assist WIC staff in providing culturally appropriate services for the communities.

  • Assist with WIC outreach and service delivery to include serving on committees and/or boards to represent the WIC program and services driven to support diverse communities.

Breastfeeding Promotion Education and Support

  • Counsel pregnant women on breastfeeding at each prenatal WIC visit.

  • Teach group prenatal breastfeeding classes.

  • Give basic breastfeeding information and support.

  • Issue and educate on breast pumps as needed.

  • Refer to community and clinic lactation support as needed.

  • Answer questions and give information to improve breastfeeding success.

Operation Support

  • Handle participant checkin and paperwork verification.

  • Process WIC enrollment.

  • Utilize technology systems.

  • Monitor selfcheck procedures.

  • Communicate with clients via texts calls and chart reviews regarding benefits and certifications.

  • Participate in team meetings for policy updates.
