Job Description
The Research in Education and Learning (REAL) Lab at the University of Virginia directed by Dr. Jamie Jirout is seeking a parttime lab manager with an immediate start date (midMarch) and continuing through 2025. This position is open to all UVA students eligible for student employment and federal work study eligibility is preferred.
The REAL lab investigates how curiosity develops the ways that classroom learning experiences influence academic curiosity and how curiosity can support learning especially within Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) learning contexts. We conduct research in a lab space on grounds online and in schools with children and adults.
The lab manager will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the lab including coordinating 1520 lab members working across several different research projects managing data collection and data management performing administrative tasks such as tracking progress on different tasks and organizing files managing lab equipment and the lab website/social media and assisting with other researchrelated tasks as needed such as recruiting families and community partners supporting data management facilitating participant stipends planning travel logistics and onboarding new lab members.
A strong candidate will have experience and proficiency in using Microsoft programs and UVA Box strong communication skills excellent organizational skills and keen attention to detail. Preference will be given to those with the ability to work 1520 hours per week with some flexibility possible in when those hours are worked. Individuals who are adaptable creative problemsolvers detailoriented friendly and dedicated to inclusion will be wellsuited for this role.
Job responsibilities take place in Charlottesville VA with some inperson commitment and flexibility for hybrid work. Ideally the candidate will be able to continue working in this position beyond the end of spring 2024 semester with flexibility in location and hours in the summer. The position will pay hourly with an expected range of $16.2126.15 depending on prior experience and academic level.
