An unacceptable driving record is defined as any of the following:
1. three 3 or more moving violations in the past 3 years that accumulate 3 or more points per violation;
2. any 2 convictions of reckless driving in the past 3 years;
3. a suspension or revocation of the driver license for moving violations in the past 3 years; and
4. a suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction in the past 4 years
Your driving record will be reviewed and the status of your driver license confirmed. A mandatory drug screening will be performed on the successful applicant.
Applicants hired for this position with a Class E license will be required to obtain a CDL Instructional Permit within 60 days of appointment attend CDL training and successfully pass the CDL licensing test and obtain a CDL Class B license with air brakes within 10 months after appointment to the position. Upon hire this position also requires applicant to have an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Departments Drivers Record Requirements Policy. The costs of the initial CDL training and initial testing will be paid by the Department subject to available funding. An employee will be given three chances to pass the license requirements. The employee will be responsible for paying for the initial CDL permit fee as well as any additional training and retest costs and the CDL fee.
In order to be eligible for hire into a position requiring a CDL applicants who already possess a CDL must register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administrations Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse as required for the Department to conduct a preemployment query. POSITION DESCRIPTION: Performs minor maintenance and servicing work in connection with any type of equipment operated and assists in the repairs of this equipment; checks and adds fluids checks/adjusts brakes maintains proper air pressure in all tires etc. Cleans and washes equipment. After obtaining the required Instructional CDL permit or license operates vehicles and a variety of small and medium equipment that may include but not limited to; dump truck front end loader skid steer loader grader lift equipment small bulldozer and asphalt repair truck while performing bridge and roadway maintenance.
Uses a variety of hand pneumatic and electrical tools to maintain bridges and roadways. Performs Independent manual labor incidental to job assignments with minimal supervision.
Performs tree trimming rough carpentry masonry painting and/or assists in the assembly and erection of highway signs.
Performs Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic). Assists with crew activity reports as needed.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: MATHEMATICAL CALCULATIONS; STANDARD SAFETY RULES AND PROCEDURES. SKILLED IN: OPERATING A VARIETY OF HAND AND POWER TOOLS; OPERATING AND PERFORMING MINOR MAINTENANCE ON SMALL/MEDIUM EQUIPMENT AND VEHICLES. ABILITY TO: OPERATE A VARIETY OF HEAVY EQUIPMENT ; READ AND UNDERSTAND JOBRELATED MATERIALS AND FILL OUT REPORTS AND FORMS; MAINTAIN AND REPAIR HIGHWAYS BRIDGES AND/OR OTHER HIGHWAY STRUCTURES; COMMUNICATE BOTH VERBALLY AND IN WRITING INCLUDING FOLLOWING ORAL/WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS; DEVELOP AND MAINTAIN EFFECTIVE WORKING RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS; LIFT CARRY AND HANDLE UP TO 50 POUNDS; STOOP CLIMB SQUAT PUSH PULL CRAWL OR BEND ON A FREQUENT BASIS; WORK OUTDOORS IN VARIOUS WEATHER CONDITIONS ON VARIOUS TERRAINS AND AT VARIOUS HEIGHTS OR IN HIGH VOLUME TRAFFIC; WORK INDEPENDENTLY; STAND FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME.
OTHER JOB RELATED REQUIREMENTS: Due to the nature of this position the incumbent must respond to emergencies and be oncall 24hour duty) when necessary. Possess a valid Class E drivers license and obtain a Class B CDL Instructional Permit within 60 days of appointment to position and obtain a valid Class B CDL with air brakes within 10 months of appointment to the position. While onduty status the positions incumbent must be readily available to operate a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) consistent with the type of Commercial Drivers License (CDL) the incumbent is required to possess or on a routine basis performs other CMV safetysensitive functions. Obtains certification in Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) Intermediate Level within one year and maintains. The incumbent of this position is required to work with or around Department of Corrections inmates. Employee will be required to be responsive to emergency situations within a very short timeframe and serve in the Transportation Emergency Management Team.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Requires one year of experience operating small/medium equipment and vehicles. A Class E drivers license is required at time of hire. A CDL Class B License Instructional Permit is required within 60 days of appointment to the position and obtain a CDL Class B license with air brakes within 10 months of appointment.
