Description

Primary Function of the Position

Under the Career and Job Training Managers direction the Student Advisor will help participants achieve selfsufficiency by providing job training career counseling employment case management and program lead duties. This position works closely with refugees immigrants and students (whereas English is a Second Language) to identify barriers to custom job training individual employment plan development document and collect participant activities and participation hours respond to student questions and needs and entering all information relevant to each participant into funder required database. To achieve the Workforce Development Impact Areas goals the Student Advisor must establish cooperative relationships with the participants and Custom Job Trainers and employer partners.

The candidate must demonstrate a strong work ethic integrity accountability and high performance in previous work experiences. The best candidate for this position is someone who can align themselves to our outcomesdriven culture and understands the unique challenges of an immigrant and refugee workforce population. We are looking for a high performer and achiever innovative and a pulse on employment service trends driving programs and services towards results and outcomes.

Position Responsibilities

  • Manage an average caseload of 3060 students.
  • Develop and review employment case plans regularly; collect and verify student documentation according to employment plan activities via Workforce One (WF1.
  • Evaluate facilitate and monitor services and student progress in accordance with established goals and objectives.
  • Work with the student to adjust case plans as necessary; and remove barriers to success.
  • Assess and identify job training opportunities both internally and externally that are a fit for students
  • interests and shortterm and longterm goals.
  • After assisting with placement in job training classes provide ongoing support to help ensure that students are able to successfully complete training.
  • Track monitor create case notes and report student progress in Workforce One.
  • Inform students of any job leads and encourage workeligible students to apply.
  • Provide internal support services to include family assistance transportation childcare referral etc. and make suitable referrals to community organizations.
  • Use systemgenerated ticklers to stay on top of tasks and case plans.
  • Maintain wellorganized case files that include uptodate and accurate student personal information employment plans activity verifications case notes correspondence student support requests and all other supporting documents covering the span of students time in the Workforce Development program.
  • Review and edit all case notes for accuracy spelling and grammar before closing case notes.
  • Ensure all activities are accurately recorded and entered into Workforce One and reflect in the employment plans.
  • Develop and maintain relationships and information regarding supportive services offered by other social service providers in the community and agencies that HAP partners with.
  • Stay current on job data market trends and policies including federal state and county.
  • Other duties as needed to accomplish program goals outcomes and to support other Workforce Development programs.

Skills Knowledge and Abilities

  • Bilingual HmongKaren and English preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience and desire to work with persons of diverse cultural economicand educational backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of available community resources that services Hmong and other Southeast Asian populations.
  • Knowledge of available community resources providing services to lowincome families.
  • Ability to communicate and work with people from diverse economic cultural and religious backgrounds.
  • Experience and desire to work with persons of diverse cultural economic and educational backgrounds; working with Southeast Asian immigrant and refugee communities preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to be analytical detailoriented and problemsolving.
  • Ability to prioritize manage multiple project responsibilities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also being a strong team player.
  • Computer skillsnecessary includingMicrosoft Office spreadsheets and database programs.
  • Ability to complete paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Ability to travel to multiple service locations if needed.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • B.A. degree preferred in education social work human services or related field.
  • In place of a bachelors degree must have two 2 plus years of human services or related work experience.
  • Participant recruitment and outreach experience are preferred.

  • While performing the duty of this job the employee is regularly required to stand sit talk hear and use hands and fingers to operate a computer phone and keyboard.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for sustained periods of time in an indoor setting.
  • Ability to tolerate moderate noise levels (i.e. shared open office space with computers phone and printers light traffic).
  • Must have the ability to move about the office to access files and office equipment.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation for occasional travel for meetings at other HAP office locations events and offsite meetings.
  • Occasional moving or lifting of boxes or files up to 20 pounds.
  • Frequent interaction with coworkers and students requiring the ability to communicate effectively.
  • Frequent communication via email requiring the ability to read and write in English fluently.
