Summary

Our Flagstaff Substation Maintenance crew has an immediate opening for a Substation Journeyman.The work hours for this position are Monday Friday 6:00AM 2:30PM.

This posting has been designated by the Company as a HardtoFill position and therefore is eligible for a onetime $10000 signing/retention bonus under the terms and conditions of the executed LOMA dated 04/03/2018.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Completed a Registered Electrician Apprenticeship Program or an equivalent training program (as approved by APS T&D Technical & Safety Training) PLUS one year experience as an Electrician**
  • Must currently have a valid manual Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with no mechanical restrictions and ability to meet all DOT requirements.
  • This position requires working with aerial equipment which has weight restrictions of 300 lbs or less
  • Must live within reasonable distance one 1)hour from assigned Headquarters.
  • Qualifying test may be administered
  • Subject to overtime and or/ outoftown assignments

Preferred Skills:

  • Considerable experience performing journeymanlevel high voltage substation duties with an electric utility or other entity operating and maintaining high voltage substation equipment preferred
  • Experienced in writing and executing switching orders and basic computer skills such as Microsoft Word Excel and Outlook
  • The ideal candidate filling this vacancy must be selfmotivated communicate and work well with others and possess a positive attitude with the highest commitment to work safety.

*Registered Apprenticeship Program Criteria: Program must have a documented process for hours worked in the field in the work processes associated with the craft e.g. distribution transmission maintenance etc.Registered apprenticeship programs for the trades in question requirehours 3 5 years).Program must have documented proof of completion of related education classroom courses.Registered apprenticeship programs require a minimum of 144 hours per year of related education courses during the course of the apprenticeship program

** Journeyman level experience must be documented in writing if you are unable to provide us a certificate of completion of Registered Apprenticeship.This will require a letter on company letterhead documenting your title details of your roles and responsibilities and length of time in that position.It must be signed by an operations or HR manager.This information will be subject to verification.

Testing Information

Tests are only administered to referred candidates. More information about our tests and the testing process can be found HERE.

A written paper and pencil test will be administered.
A test using a computer with keyboard will be administered.
A handson skills test will be administered.

Role Type

Onsite:Requires work to be performed in the field and/or at an APS facility. Depending on the responsibilities of the role this may include but is not limited to working at a power plant job site or in the community.

*Employees are expected to reside in Arizona (or New Mexico for Four Cornersbased employees).

*Role types are subject to change based on business need.

Eligibility:

Must live or relocate within reasonable distance to the headquarters. Reasonable distance is defined as one 1 hour for Metro and State Region locations. Reasonable distance for Troublemen Local Representatives and Substation Technicians is defined as thirty 30 minutes for Metro locations and fortyfive 45 minutes for State Region locations. Failure to accept a job offer due to the reasonable distance requirement specific to the position will be counted toward the bid restriction as described in Article 13 Section 11

CIP Requirement:

This position requires Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) access consistent with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards. The applicant considered for this role will be required to obtain and maintain CIP access for the duration of employment in this position. A full seven 7 year criminal history will be obtained through the preemployment background check process (or for current employees through supplemental background check process) to fulfill the CIP access requirements. In addition this position requires an additional background check every seven years to maintain access.
