JOB GOAL: The Assistant Director of ML provides instructional leadership and a proven ability to share best practices in order to build positive working relationships with all constituents and to provide highquality instruction to students in the districts ML program. The ideal candidate will have a strong background and knowledge in ML instruction process and culturally proficient educational practices with a focus on closing learning gaps for English language learner students by implementing targeted interventions differentiated instruction and equitable access to resources that support language development and academic success. |
QUALIFICATIONS |
Education:
Licensed in English as a Second Language Teacher and as a Principal/Vice Principal or Director/Supervisor in the State of
Massachusetts
Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related field
Experience teaching ML students (minimum 3 years)
Professional Certification:
Licensed in English as a Second Language Teacher and as a Director/Supervisor or Principal/Vice Principal in the State of
Massachusetts
Performance Responsibilities:
- Implements the Districts plan for delivering ML services and supports and communicates this plan to school administration staff and the public in collaboration with the district cabinet administration and administrative council.
- Facilitates the development implementation and evaluation of the districts PreK12 ML programs common assessments and curriculum.
- Coordinates the ongoing development implementation and coordination of the systems K12 curricula in Multilingual Learning.
- Works collaboratively with teachers and focuses on developing teacher expertise in the PreK12 ML curriculum in order to implement a guaranteed viable curriculum administers common (formative and summative) assessments and uses student data to refine teaching practices in the PreK12 ML curriculum.
- Assists staff with utilizing data to inform instruction and works collaboratively when students require support from special education.
- Supports the development implementation and evaluation of common assessments in collaboration with classroom teachers.
- Plans and implements buildingbased and districtwide professional development related to ML programming and process. May be asked to present at school committee meetings and other evening/afterschool events as well.
- Coordinates/conducts/supports assessments of ML students as outlined by DESE including MCAS assessments and the mandated state & local testing.
- Manages the ACCESS assessments and makes certain that all of the requirements from DESE are being met by all deadlines. Acts as the District RETML.
- Conducts DESE audits and reviews for ML District programs in a thorough and timely manner.
- Supervises and evaluates the staff members in the ML Department.
- Serves as a liaison between the Superintendent building principals department leaders classroom teachers students and parents.
- Facilitates and coordinates the district ELPAC and other parent engagement activities including events outside of the school day/evening and ensures appropriate translation services are provided for these events.
- Works with schoolbased staff members and district registrar to enroll students and maintain updates to the Districts ML roster. Responsible for conducting ML screening upon registration.
- Oversees the maintenance of student ML files in accordance with the requirements of DESE.
- Maintains current curriculum materials approved courses credit information registration guides and other important information concerning the districts PreK12 ML education curriculum.
- In conjunction with the Office of Human Resources oversees the plan to assist teachers in obtaining SEI Endorsements.
- To write oversee and manage all aspects of the Title III grant and other MLrelated grants as they become available.
- Coordinates and facilitates regular staff and/or PLC meetings with ML staff.
- Familiar with Edwin Analytics and maintains compliance with DESE ELE regulations.
Specialized Knowledge:
- Thorough understanding of and commitment to the principles and practices of diversity equity inclusion and social justice as they relate to student staff and community engagement and cultivation
- Knowledge of WIDA Standards and MA Curriculum Frameworks and MCAS
- Certified to administer ACCESS Exam
- Ability to use data including data as a means of promoting instructional access and
- curriculum planning for highquality ML instruction
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with Google Suite (Drive Docs Sheets Slides Classroom etc. and PowerSchool preferred but will train the right candidate.
Skills:
- Demonstrated aptitude for work to be performed
- Bilingual skills especially in Spanish and Portuguese are highly desirable
- Candidates should have a passion for working with students families and colleagues

- Candidates must be able to multitask in a fastpaced supportive environment that nurtures student growth
- Candidates must be organized and able to meet ongoing timesensitive deadlines for work production
Alternative degrees/experience may be substituted for the above at the discretion of the Superintendent if such a substitution brings a strong candidate forward.
