Ravenscroft is an independent coeducational day school in Raleigh NC with approximately 1250 students in grades PreK12.
We are actively looking to welcome an Upper School English teacher to join our community of educators who actively strives to be diverse equitable and inclusive. Reports to: Head of Upper School
The successful candidate will be an educator who displays passion for teaching high school English and literature; other responsibilities and competencies include:
- Teaching 5 sections of English literature and/or composition. Specific teaching assignments will depend on our needs and the qualifications of a successful candidate. Teachers typically teach 23 different courses.
- Demonstrating cultural competence and the ability to connect with a diverse community of students faculty staff and parents
- Exhibiting superior teaching skills that demonstrate best practices including inquirybased learning differentiated instruction and facilitation
- Advising approximately 12 students and facilitating the integration of our Lead from Here curriculum
- Designing and delivering lessons that are supportive of Ravenscrofts mission to nurture individual potential and prepare students to thrive in a complex and interdependent world
- Understanding the development of Upper School students and displaying a passion for working with this age group
- Connecting with students challenging them and shifting pedagogical practice to meet the needs of diverse learners
- Advising approximately 12 students and facilitating the integration of our Lead from Here curriculum
- Demonstrating effective technology skills including the ability to use our learning management systems (including but not limited to Canvas and Veracross)
- Experience supporting social emotional learning inside and outside of the classroom; an eagerness and ability to support our Lead From Here curriculum
- Participating in other aspects of the School community as desired by the candidate (i.e. athletics committees etc.. The ability and willingness to coach a sport is strongly desired.
- Demonstrating a growth mindset and the ability to receive feedback adapt to different learners needs and become a valued colleague in a strong and cohesive English department

Education and experience requirements:
- Bachelors degree in English or a related field required; MA or MEd degree highly desirable
- Experience teaching English preferred
- Experience coaching preferred
