As part of the Indian Education Grant Consortium the Indian Ed Tutor helps students in grades K 12 who have Native American ancestry and need support in core subject areas. Our consortium consists of Chippewa Valley Schools and LAnse Creuse Public Schools. The Indian Ed Tutor can create a flexible working schedule to offer tutoring servicesbetween the two districts of the consortium.
Duties and Responsibilities:
(These duties and responsibilities are judged to be essential functions in terms of the Americans With Disabilities Act or ADA)
- Support a positive learning environment by providing educational support to students while working under the direction of a certified teacher
- Assist students with homework projects test preparation papers research and other academic tasks as needed.
- Work with students to help them understand key concepts especially those learned in the classroom
- Teach skills to improve academic performance including study strategies notetaking skills and approaches to answering test questions
- Offering feedback on progress to students teachers where appropriate
- Maintain 100 confidentiality in all areas pertaining to students.
- Assist with cultural workshops offered 2 3 times per year for Native American families within our consortium.
- Provide documentation & data required for grant reporting.
Qualifications:
- Must have completed 60 credit hours of undergraduate courses required
- Educational field of study preferred
- Experience working with diverse student populations preferred.
Abilities:
- Ability to be caring understanding and friendly towards students required.
- Ability to communicate well required.
- Ability to read and interpret school policies and handbook required.
- Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form required.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students staff and community required.
