Reposted on March 19 2025Employment Opportunity: Calvin Coolidge School (K4)POSITION: School Adjustment Counselor/Social Worker LongTerm SubstituteShrewsbury Public Schools is currently accepting applications for a LongTerm Substitute School Adjustment Counselor/Social Worker for Calvin Coolidge School a K4 neighborhood elementary school.The School Adjustment Counselor/Social Worker is responsible for helping students overcome academic and social/emotional challenges by providing individualized support. This role involves identifying and assessing students needs referring them to community resources offering direct counseling services (both oneonone and in small groups) crisis management and managing cases for students on their caseload.The position is fulltime and typically pays $280 per diem for the length of the assignment.We are interested in candidates who are invested in the achievement equity and access of all learners in and beyond the classroom. Candidates with diverse racial ethnic cultural religious class and/or gender background and experiences are strongly encouraged to apply.Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Provide social/emotional support to students through a multitiered system of support model.Ability to provide evidencebased interventions via direct counseling services for students identified through Student WellBeing Teams Early Intervening Teams Individualized Education Plans (IEP) or 504 accommodations.Competency in data collection via progress monitoring socialemotional and behavioral health concerns.Ability to teach socialemotional learning curriculum via whole classroom instruction as needed.Works as a liaison between classroom teachers counselors administration outside agencies families and students.Collaborates and coordinates with administrators and staff to develop and modify individualized behavior programming as necessary.Promotes student support on selfawareness selfmanagement social awareness relationship skills and responsible decisionmaking.Works effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. This includes but is not limited to Teachers Administration district BCBAs School Psychologists Director of Elementary Special Education Director of Counseling and Mental Health Services and Consulting Psychiatrist.Serves on various buildingbased teams including Student WellBeing Team and Crisis Team.Seeks out and implements evidencebased counseling techniques to deliver shortterm counseling interventions to resolve immediate conflicts/problems; intervene in studentspecific situations that disrupt learning for reentry to the classroom environment.Supports reentry from hospitalization due to social/emotional difficulties medically fragile (i.e. concussion) longterm medical absences.Open communication with families about student performance and responds promptly.Provides support to school personnel regarding student engagement cultural diversity and the delivery of educational support to students who have multiple risk factors.Ability to selfreflect engage in consultation and apply ideas for improving practice from supervisors colleagues and professional developmental activities to gain expertise.Responsible for providing outreach and followup for students including home visits as needed due to attendance problems/concerns.Other duties as assigned by building administration or directors.Preferred:Actively demonstrates the values of Shrewsbury Public Schools: respect for others responsibility collaboration communication commitment to high standards and expectations and equity.Possesses licensure from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as a School Social Worker/Adjustment Counselor All Levels.Possesses licensure from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a LCSW LICSW or LMHC.Has obtained a Masters degree in Mental Health Counseling or Social Work.Evidence of mastery of clinical skills including ability to implement evidencebased interventions for group work individual counseling case management and crisis intervention.Works flexibly in the changing school environment.Physical and Environmental Demands:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
