Job Description

The HomeBased Paraprofessional will provide comprehensive support to a student within a home setting. The paraprofessional will collaborate closely with a special education teacher to implement Individualized Education Program (IEP) facilitate learning and developmental activities and support the students complex academic social and personal care needs.Key Responsibilities:Instructional Support:Provide oneonone academic support tailored to the students unique learning needs and IEP goals.Utilize specialized instructional strategies tools and technology to enhance learning. This includes using visual aids communication devices and adaptive software.Adapt and create instructional materials to meet the students diverse learning styles and abilities. This involves breaking down tasks into manageable steps using repetitive practice and incorporating the students interests to motivate learning.Engage the student in sensory and handson activities to support learning and development. These activities might include tactile learning tools interactive games and practical life skills exercises.Assist with the implementation of therapeutic activities designed by the speechlanguage pathologist occupational therapist physical therapist and vision therapist to support the students developmental goals.Provide feedback and reinforcement to encourage progress and build the students confidence.Monitor and record the students academic performance providing detailed reports to the special education teacher.Behavioral Support:Monitor and document the students behavior noting triggers patterns and progress.Personal Care:Assist the student with daily living activities including feeding toileting dressing and personal hygiene (such as hand and face washing).Support the students mobility needs including transferring positioning and using assistive devices. This includes safely lifting and moving the student from wheelchair to bed adjusting positioning to prevent pressure sores and ensuring the proper use of walkers or standers.Ensure the students safety and wellbeing at all times adhering to health and safety protocols. This includes maintaining a clean and organized environment regularly sanitizing supplies/equipment and being vigilant about potential hazards.Provide physical and emotional support offering comfort and encouragement to the student during daily activities.Communicate effectively with the students family to ensure consistency in care and address any concerns promptly.Data Collection and Reporting:Maintain detailed and accurate records of the students academic performance progress and personal care activities.Provide regular updates and feedback to the supervising special education teacher.Participate in IEP meetings if warranted contributing valuable insights and observations to the team.Collaboration:Work closely with the students family to ensure continuity of care and consistency in routines and strategies.Communicate effectively with the special education teacher therapists and other professionals involved in the students care.Attend and participate in training sessions workshops and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.Qualifications:Education:High school diploma or equivalent required.Associates degree or higher in education special education or a related field preferred.Experience:Minimum of 2 years of experience working with children with intensive special needs preferably in an educational or home setting.Experience implementing an IEP and providing personal care to an individual with special needs.Skills:Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships with the student family and team members.High level of patience compassion and a positive attitude.Strong problemsolving skills and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.Proficiency in using assistive technology and adaptive equipment.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.Certifications:Certification as a paraprofessional or teacher assistant in Massachusetts is preferred.Physical Requirements:Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.Ability to perform physical tasks such as bending lifting and assisting with mobility.Stamina to engage in physical activities throughout the day including walking standing and participating in the students activities.Work Environment:The paraprofessional will work in the students home adhering to all safety privacy and confidentiality guidelines.Must be comfortable working in a home setting and flexible to adapt to changes in the environment or routine.May involve working with medical equipment and adhering to specific health care plans
