Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide lowlatency highspeed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.
As a PIT RF Engineer you will be responsible for the development of various electronic hardware test setups in the Payload Integration and Test lab as well as in the field. You will work closely with engineering teams in the specification/design of these test setups and the build/procurement of test equipment for Kuiper prototype payload hardware. This is very much a handson role and a successful candidate will have extensive experience in supporting the full development cycles of RF communications and space hardware through development prototyping and qualification procedures. You must be responsive flexible and able to succeed within a collaborative and fastpaced environment.
Responsibilities
Working from schematics diagrams written and verbal descriptions layouts or defined plans to build out benchtop and rackmounted test setups.
Building and modifying custom test harnesses breadboards and test fixtures in support of payload hardware tests.
Performing operational tests system checkouts and fault isolation on test setups systems and equipment.
Assisting in the development of lab processes equipment scheduling and work tracking.
Implementing validating and optimizing RF lab setups composed of antenna measurement equipment and prototype equipment.
Configuring test equipment for automated operation: satellite link emulator spectrum analyzer signal generator etc.
Working with engineering teams to specify and procure a range of capital equipment to meet program development requirements including signal generators spectrum analyzers channel emulators network loading and computing equipment.
Meeting with suppliers to select enabling lab technologies.
Keeping equipment in working order and maintaining all service and calibration records.
Establishing lab layouts and facility utilities requirements (power thermal loads LN2 GN2.
Maintaining a safe operating environment and ensuring the lab is in compliance with OSHA ESD Safety etc.
Export Control Requirement
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national U.S. permanent resident (i.e. current Green Card holder) or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline or 2 years of RF satellite aerospace or related industry experience.
2 years of experience in RF design and/or verification with launched products.
Masters degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
Experience with onorbit payload verification or satellite testing.
Experience with current and upcoming RF standards in cellular 4G/5G) OFDM/WiMAX 802.11ad microwave backhaul DVBS2 / DVBC OR similar broadband wireless standards.
Experience with communications theory and RF systems: OFDM MIMO freespace optics polarization spread spectrum matching Sparameters losses coherence etc.
Understanding of the challenges associated with lowEarthorbit satellite communications: frequency bands regulatory earth stations path loss power spectral density power flux density etc. Experience in wireless (satellite and/or terrestrial) system design and/or system integration RF system analysis.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $104000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212200/year in our highest geographic market.
