You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThe primary purpose of the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Scrub Nurse position is to work under the direct supervision of the professional registered nurse (RN)/Staff Nurse in the operating room. The LPN Scrub Nurse may take vitals prepare and administer injections monitor medical equipment and dress wounds. LPN Scrub Nurses assist RNs with perioperative patient care by acting as a scrub nurse and/or circulating nurse during surgical procedures. During the surgery the LPN Scrub Nurse hands the surgeon instruments sponges and sutures and might assist by holding retractors or performing other task.
Care provided is patient centered.
Under the direction of a professional RN functions as an LPN Scrub Nurse and demonstrates proficient practice in general surgical procedures and commonly performed specialty procedures.
Utilizing knowledge of growth and development demonstrates patient care concepts by providing a safe environment for the patients.
Demonstrates the application of the principles of sterility in a knowledgeable manner to provide optimum patient care.
Participates in delegated tasks related to patient care services and departmental functions.
Assists the RN coordinating care in the OR as directed by performing duties within the scope of practice.
Acts as a patient advocate. Introduces self to patient and explains role in the surgical team.
Identifies patient by asking patient to state their name and date of birth and visually confirm with ID band medical record and Optime OR schedule.
Licensed as a Practical Nurse in the State of New Jersey. Experience in Acute Care preferred. AHA or ARC CPR required. Completion of a surgical tech program a plus. Effective interpersonal skills. Must be able to push and pull heavy objects such as gurneys patient beds and OR beds. Must maintain a neat clean professional appearance. Must have understanding patience and tact in dealing with physicians
and fellow workers. Must pay attention to detail. Must have excellent handeye coordination. Must be selfmotivated and work in an efficient and effective manner. Must be able to work in airconditioned environment with temperature of 6573 degrees and humidity of 4555. When assigned to pediatric cases temperature may be up to 8590 degrees Fahrenheit. Must wear hospital provided scrub attire while on duty. Potential for cuts bruises muscle strains and exposure to contagious disease via body fluids. Potential for exposure to anesthesia waste gases ethylene oxide harsh disinfectants sterilizing agents high steam pressure agents and radiation. Willingness to work with employees at various levels of skill knowledge and abilities.
