About this Program
Wellways has several programs providing services to the Tasmanian community. Participation of people with a lived experience of mental illness is an important element of the way in which Wellways provides services. Under the support and direction of the Program Coordinator North West Tasmania the Wellways to Recovery Peer Worker role forms part of the Wellways to Recovery team.
The Wellways to Recovery program is a is communitybased support program informed by the evidencebased Community Recovery Model for individuals aged 16 and above with diagnosed mental health challenges. The program works with individuals and their families to identify personal recovery goals and assists them to develop the knowledge skills and strategies to improve their health and wellbeing. We also provide information education advice and support to family members friends and engage community members as mentors and supports.
About the Opportunity
As a peer worker you will utilise your life experiences of mental health challenges to empower your community members. Your experiences and knowledge of mental health challenges will offer hope confidence and empowerment to your peers.
Utilising the Wellways Lived Experience Workforce Framework you will provide support and will act as an advocate and positive role model for program participants and their families to overcome stigma and encourage personal development. You will share your experience of mental illness to assist participants their families clinicians and the community to better understand the participant perspective and to improve outcomes for community members.
