Position Summary

Sport Management. Department of Sport Studies at Guilford College is seeking qualified candidates for a three year visiting assistant professor of Sport Management position to begin August 1 2025. The Department is pursuing someone with the expertise to teach topics such as sport finance sport marketing sport communication organization & administration of sport & exercise programs sport sociology and other topics in the major. In addition teach a class in the Internal Sport Management masters program. The College also welcomes individuals with an integrated perspective reflecting the intersection of sport management and other subdisciplines of kinesiology (e.g. fitness/recreation management). Candidates should possess a doctoral degree (or have ABD status) in sport management or a related.

Candidates primary interest must be in teaching 2 undergraduate and 1 graduate level course. The teaching load is 3/3 the equivalent of 12credit hours per semester. Candidates should have demonstrated classroom teaching success ability to service diverse populations relevant work experience and potential for relevant scholarly activity. Departmentrelated responsibilities include (a) teaching courses in sport management and related areas of expertise; (b) help foster internship opportunities; (c) assisting ongoing assessment and revision of the sport management curriculum with faculty in the department; and (d) assist with academic advising.

The Sport Management Program founded by Herb Appenzeller at Guilford College was one of the first in the nation. Greensboro is known as Tournament Town due to the numerous local regional and national athletic events and tournaments hosted. Sport management students have interned locally with organizations such as the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Greensboro Coliseum and Aquatics Center Greensboro Sports Commission two MLB teams and four NCAA Division I athletic teams. Greensboro offers unique opportunities outside of its metropolitan area due to its close proximity to Charlotte 80 miles) and Triangle region (Raleigh Durham and Chapel Hill 80 miles).
