Sr Systems Development Engineer SRE Kuiper

Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

The Role:
Be part of Project Kuipers subteam responsible for defining and implementing the digital chip SOCs for communications via Low Earth Orbit satellites and Amazon gateways. This is a unique opportunity to define a ground breaking wireless solution with no legacy constraints. The team works with customer requirements and wireless system teams to define modems highspeed interfaces embedded processors and DSP solutions in latest CMOS generation technologies.

Key job responsibilities
* Deploy and optimize AWS services based ASIC EDA environments for 300 engineers
* Design set up and maintain test fixtures to verify software on real hardware
* Write software and scripts for operations to keep things running and highly available
* Troubleshoot software and hardware problems with preproduction equipment
* Contribute to engineering efforts from design to implementation solving complex technical challenges around developer and engineering productivity and velocity especially as it relates to rapid test iteration
* Design and build advanced automated build test and release infrastructure
* Drive adoption of best practices in code health testing and maintainability

A day in the life
The successful applicant will be experienced in keeping technical infrastructure running smoothly and balancing high priority issues. You should be comfortable taking on ambiguous challenges like setting up new preproduction hardware for the first time. You should be able to define runbooks standard operating procedures metrics and alarms to keep equipment and test infrastructure highly available and expand the teams capabilities over time. You will be invaluable to enabling the team to move quickly and confidently with robust verification frameworks that scale with our systems.

About the team
The Kuiper Silicon teams deliver custom communication silicon for the Kuiper constellation.

Bachelors degree in Computer Science or equivalent
4 years of professional experience in an SRE/DevOps role including server management and Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
3 years of experience with cloud technologies particularly AWS
Proficiency in Python programming and automation tools
Strong knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (networking storage operating systems)

Experience working with ASIC teams and HighPerformance Computing (HPC) environments
AWS certifications (e.g. AWS Certified Solutions Architect AWS Certified DevOps Engineer)
Experience with container orchestration monitoring tools and database administration
Familiarity with incident management and performance optimization of largescale distributed systems

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $235200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on jobrelated knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
