Job Title: Art Teacher

Contract Length: 192day contract

FLSA Status: Exempt

Job Summary

Position is responsible for creating a classroom environment to develop an interest in and the ability for creative expression in visual terms using skills and techniques of artistic expression appropriate to the students interests and abilities; and to discover and develop talents of students in the field of art.

Essential Duties

1. Teaches courses in art utilizing curriculum designated by Accomack County Public Schools and other appropriate learning activities.
2. Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of Accomack County Public Schools.
3. Develops lesson plans to include a balanced art program and organizes daily class time so that instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
4. Adapts the curriculum to provide individual small group or remedial instruction to meet the needs of the individual student compatible with the divisions basic instructional philosophy and congruent with course / SOL standards.
5. Demonstrates techniques in activities such as drawing painting and modeling using standard and teacher prepared instructional aids.
6. Evaluates academic and social growth of students prepares report cards and keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports checklists census forms and other recordkeeping activities as necessary.
7. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly productive classroom environment.
8. Instructs students in proper care and use of tools and equipment.
9. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve learning health and attitude problems.
10. Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
11. Supervises students in assigned out of classroom activities during the assigned working day.
12. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
13. Plans and presents art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students work for the school and the community.
14. Administers testing in accordance with division testing practices.
15. Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.

Other Duties

1. Attends staff development programs curriculum development meetings and other professional activities.
2. Keeps abreast of developments research and new technology in the field of music education.
3. Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal & other appropriate administrator.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge Skills and/or Abilities Required)

Must possess a Bachelors or Masters degree in education or a related field and meet the Virginia Department of Education licensure eligibility requirements to teach art. Must possess effective instructional delivery techniques and excellent communication skills. Must possess an indepth knowledge of music techniques and skills. Must possess the ability to instruct students in music. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators parents and students.
