Job Description

OVERVIEW OF POSITION:

The primary responsibility of the Instructional Specialist is to improve the quality of instruction across the curriculum in the assigned school(s).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works with the principal and teachers at the assigned schools in developing instructional plans that are consistent with the accountability plan.
  • Demonstrates instructional strategies that promote cognitive and affective growth for all students stressing the balanced literacy approach and problemsolving activities.
  • Assists teachers in selecting and using effective teaching strategies to achieve the goals of the standards and benchmarks.
  • Assists in the selection production and use of instructional materials; including appropriate technologies that support the goals of the accountability plan.
  • Designs plans and conduct appropriate inservice programs at the assigned school(s).
  • Assists in monitoring analyzing and utilizing student data.
  • Informs teachers of current learning techniques in implementing scientifically based research strategies.
  • Provides small group instruction to accommodate individual student needs.
  • Institutes schoolwide programs that encourage family involvement that promote student achievement.

OTHER DUTIES:

Other duties assigned that are related to the functions of the position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to work cooperatively with students teachers parents school personnel and the community. Must be able to respond appropriately to supervision and accept commendations and recommendations. Must demonstrate sensitivity/understanding in interpersonal relations with people or diverse cultures/backgrounds.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

A bachelors degree is required a masters degree from an accredited college or university is preferred. Certification is required with a minimum of five 5 years of successful teaching experience preferably with exceptional student populations and/or atrisk populations.

PROFESSIONALISM:

In the CoBSS the Instructional Coach (Literacy) acknowledges that he or she must maintain a high standard of professional conduct. Breach of said professional conduct includes but is not limited to neglect of duty dishonesty engagement in acts that are contrary to CoBSS policy unlawful activities or any other conduct which is seriously prejudicial to the school system. Moreover he or she shall be expected to a) conduct occasional district state and national travel and b) participate in occasionally prolonged and irregular hours.

  • Follows the time and/or duty schedule authorized by the school principal for the school day and extracurricular activities.
  • Notifies the principal promptly in case of absence and communicates in advance the date of return.
  • Maintains neat accurate current and complete records and reports and submits some time to the appropriate personnel when requested
  • Inform principal when a student is absent three consecutive days or five days overall
  • Assesses and evaluates each students progress on a regular basis.
  • Attends school regularly and arrives punctually
  • Always observes professional lines of communication with individuals inside and outside the school system
  • Maintains the confidentiality of school and student records
  • Maintains communication with immediate supervisor keeping him/her informed of problems concerns and significant developments.
  • Demonstrates positive support through actions and words as ambassadors of the schools and districts.
  • Uses proper administrative procedures/chain of commands for making requests and resolving conflicts.
  • Follow directives as assigned by your supervisor
  • Communicate effectively with students staff parents and the community.
  • Assumes outside classroom duties as related to school.
  • Assists in enforcing school/board rules and policies.
  • Ensures proper care of textbooks teaching aids and equipment.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to further develop effectiveness.
  • Creates partnerships with parents/caregivers and colleagues.
  • Supports school programs and displays a positive attitude.
  • Completes reports and records assigned.
  • Projects wellgroomed appearance.
  • Meets the criteria for a Professional Growth Plan following the guidelines in the City of Baker School System Personnel Evaluation Program.
  • Perform all other duties or responsibilities not listed as delegated by the principal of the school.
  • Attending back to school night events.
  • Participate and attend parent teacher conferences.
  • Attending student activities functions as directed by Principal: ie. Dances programs prom sporting events professional development meetings inservice training and other programs as deemed an essential component of the schools programming.

TECHNOLOGICAL ABILITIES:

To perform this job successfully an individual must be proficient in widespread use of a computer the use of email as a form of communication and other jobspecific equipment software and/or applications.
