Summary of Duties
The Scientific Assistant will work in the laboratory and field under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI) to carry out research on little cherry Xdisease and/or other systemic pathogens affecting fruit trees in the Pacific Northwest.
The incumbent will be expected to assist in the development and of field and laboratory experiments including but not exclusive to plot establishment and maintenance sample collection and processing molecular and other diagnostics and genetic/proteomic research. The employee will collect and record data prepare reports for the PIs and collaborators and will be expected to aid in the preparation of data for publication.
Where necessary they oversee the activities of hourly employees and will be expected to be able to travel instate to field sites to support the Prosser and Wenatchee research centers. Finally they will work cooperatively within the program communicating effectively with fellow researchers and stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
A Bachelors degree in an appropriate related scientific or engineering discipline and three 3 years of progressively responsible related professional research experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a yearforyear basis. A Masters degree in an appropriate related scientific or engineering discipline may be substituted for up to one year of the required work experience.
Must have or be able to obtain by time of hire a valid drivers license and meet requirements in accordance withSPPM 7.10and departmental driving standards.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in plant insect and plant pathogen detection and diagnosis.
Experience with little cherry / Xdisease pathogens and diseases.
Additional Information:
This is a part time 75 FTE) This position is overtime eligible.
Temporary End Date: This is a temporary position expected to end twelve months after the hire date. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.
Monthly Salary: $3038.19 $3371.65 75 FTE) Commensurate with experience and qualifications
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110 the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidates current experience education skills and abilities related to the position.
