The Content Operations Manager position oversees the operations of the publishing business and its smooth running from growth strategy to scheduling and from staff resource to financial management.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy and Leadership

  • With the EditorinChief and Publishing and Events Manager lead on the daytoday management of a global editorial team optimising and communicating workflows and processes related to staff travel commissioning and content production

Scheduling and Production

  • Devise the annual production schedule for all print publications includingfriezeFrieze WeekFrieze MastersEXPO Art WeekArmory Art Weekand whitelabel magazines
  • Collaborate with the Digital Content Coordinator on the annual schedule for frieze
  • Ensure the layout of each print magazine is completed to deadline and that any issues which might hold up the production are resolved in a timely fashion
  • Schedule and set budget for oneoff products such as prints supplements books and fairrelated projects. Research and contract freelance support and suppliers as needed
  • CoordinateFrieze WeekLos Angeles New York Seoul and London: work with the editors and art director to ensure that copy and images are delivered on time; proof and input corrections into layouts; and sign off and upload each issue ensuring timely delivery
  • Coordinate the translation proofreading and design of the Korean text inFrieze WeekSeoul. Research and contract Koreanspeaking translators copyeditors designers and proofreaders
  • Oversee staffing and production forEXPO Art WeekandArmory Art Week
  • In collaboration with Production Assistants schedule editorial production design and daily runthrough meetings

Budgets Cost Control and Contracts

  • Oversee the renegotiation of the printing contract annually making savings wherever possible and sourcing alternative suppliers for all key contracts as required.
  • Monitor paper costs to ensure they remain within budget renegotiating regularly
  • Monitor expenditure for all publishing costs. Send monthly actuals to the Management Accountant and resolve any queries
  • Advise on possible efficiencies for all areas of the publishing business
  • Collaborate with the accounts team on quarterly budget reforecasts identifying efficiencies and setting the budget for special issues and activity
  • Compile the editorial teams yearly travel budget with approval from the EditorinChief and suggest where the budget could be reduced. Assist with booking flights and accommodation and arranging per diems as needed
  • Send and track contracts for writers contributing writers illustrators and photographers revising terms as needed in consultation with the legal team. Liaise with the HR department on contracts for freelance and temp staff

Staff Resource and Management

  • Manage the publishing production team including two direct reports and two indirect reports overseeing their performance goals career development and work issues and conducting regular performance reviews.
  • Manage the freelance design team ensuring there is adequate resource in place to fulfil all requirements
  • Have regular catchup meetings with the design team supporting their technical and daytoday requirements
  • Source freelance project management design editorial and production staff for oneoff projects and manage their input as required
  • Liaise with the HR team on the recruitment of publishing positions providing job specs and information as required

Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience managing content production for print and digital media
  • Strong projectmanagement skills coordinating the production and proofreading of print magazines is central to this role
  • Impeccable proofreading and copyediting skills
  • Experience overseeing and tracking budgets which includes setting the budget and schedule for new projects and activity

Desirable

  • Experience managing a publishing team including direct reports
