About Louise S. McGehee School

Louise S. McGehee School is a private independent allgirls school for PreK through grade 12 and open to all qualified girls regardless of race religion national or ethnic origin. The academic program in the upper school offers students the opportunity to prepare for the challenges of college by providing challenging classes at an individual pace for every student. Because of McGehees low teacher to student ratio faculty members tailor their curriculum to meet their students progress and interests. Position Description:

The Louise S. McGehee School is now accepting applications for a dynamic innovative fulltime Upper School Learning Specialist who enthusiastically invests herself or himself in all aspects of the education process and in the schoolwide community. The Upper School Learning Specialist supports upper school students with learning strategies executive function coaching and individual instruction/intervention. The Upper School Learning Specialist will collaborate closely with the upper school faculty school counselors as well as the leadership team to develop an effective learning support framework for the upper school.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate and develop relationships with upper school teaching teams to design differentiated instruction build accommodations and modifications into lesson plans and student materials.
  • Work with classroom teachers to understand and create a sustainable and effective plan for recommendations of all PsychEd evaluations.
  • Develop and maintain communication and documentation related to learning support.
  • Assess student growth and use data to inform instruction and intervention.
  • Coordinate standardized testing (including AP tests) for all upper school students.
  • Secure and communicate documentation necessary to providing support to students in standardized testing.
  • Build collaborative relationships with families in a way that honors their voices and wisdom as a cherished part of a students educational team.
  • Build community with students and families for advocacy education and connection.
  • Collaborate with the admissions team to screen potential applicants for learning support.
  • Advise a small group of students and work closely with their families to support their academic and social/emotional development as a part of the Upper School Advisory Program.
  • Work with families to share learning strategies that help support their students.
  • Manage our peer tutoring program and facilitate outside tutoring services.
  • Attend faculty meetings division level meetings professional development opportunities and perform other duties as determined by the Head of School.
Requirements

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in special education or related field. Masters degree or equivalent training strongly preferred.
  • 35 years as a learning specialist special education teacher or related role.
  • Experience working with a variety of students and families.
  • Confidence and experience with upper school reading writing and mathematics.
  • Indepth experience with a broad range of educational technology tools.
  • Extensive experience and training with: equity in education implicit bias assistive technology executive function Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and a wide range of complex learning needs strongly preferred.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Regularly works in standard office or classroom conditions and climate.
  • Regularly uses close and distance vision including working at a computer screen for extended periods of time.
  • Frequently required to move around the office/classroom; works at a desk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with students fellow staff and community members.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height; and to bend to stoop to reach to sit on the floor to climb stairs to walk and to reach overhead.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
