You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailIowa State University is seeking a highly motivated individual to join a team dedicated to providing tier 2 support and assisting in the monitoring maintenance and deployment of enterprisegrade network services to make the ISU community an exceptional place to work teach research and learn.
The Network Engineer I position is a highly technical role responsible for upkeep and operation of the ISU data network. This position is responsible for troubleshooting and configuration of routing switching security and wireless network equipment within wellestablished guidelines. Other duties include documentation of network services deployment and use of network monitoring solutions dashboarding performance metrics and proactive identification of capacity and performance issues. The ability to work a flexible offhours schedule for planned and unplanned maintenance is required. All team members are expected to participate in an oncall rotation.
Successful applicants must be detail oriented selfmotivated possess excellent communication skills and can troubleshoot while learning new skills tools and technologies. They also possess strong time management organizational communication and decisionmaking skills with the ability to identify analyze and solve complex problems.
A Network Engineer I has knowledge of basic features and functionality of the network technologies present in the ISU network and is learning to apply that knowledge in support of maintaining the ISU network.
Information Technology Services (ITS) provides core computing network services enterprise systems and information security resources to the students faculty and staff of Iowa State. ITS partners with IT professionals from around campus to provide more specialized IT resources to ISUs academic and business units.
Example of Duties
Assists with the installation and support of network communications including LAN/WAN systems.
Supports and troubleshoots network issues and coordinates with vendors for installation of such items as routers and switches.
Responds to maintenance service requests related to network equipment.
Supports project planning cost analysis and vendor comparisons.
Works on project implementation.
