About the Role

Ruah is proud to have developed the Karlup Service a holistic wraparound recoverybased model supporting women and children to heal from family and domestic violence. The Karlup Service provides a range of offerings from the Angela Wright Bennett Centre a stateoftheart purposebuilt facility in Perths CBD.

Housing Support is offered as part of the Karlup Service with the goal of supporting women who have experienced FDV to secure safe and stable housing for themselves and their children as an integral part of the healing and recovery journey.

Reporting to and supported by the Team Lead the Housing Support Coordinator will support clients by helping them to identify their housing needs connecting them in with available resources and services advocating for their tenancy rights and supporting their understanding of their rights and responsibilities as tenants to build their capacity to obtain and maintain suitable housing.

What were looking for

The successful applicants will be required to meet the following criteria:

  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role within the housing/homelessness sector including extensive knowledge of current housing services and how to navigate the systems that support them.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current tenancy laws and the ability to communicate these effectively to clients.
  • Previous experience in working effectively with women who have experienced family and domestic violence and the social and cultural context in which it occurs.
  • Capability to work effectively with a trauma informed model of service delivery.
  • Ability to work independently with a high level of reliability and contribute to the functioning of the team.
  • Effective interpersonal written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding of computer skills including Microsoft Office and client reporting systems.

The following criteria are considered desirable but not essential:

  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of diversity and social inclusion including gender sexuality disability cultural age and linguistic diversity and Aboriginal culture.
  • Minimum qualification of Certificate IV in Housing Community Services Social Work Community Development or similar discipline desired.
