Metals Strategic Sourcing Engineer

• Transform the supply base through rationalization resourcing and risk mitigation activities by supporting supplier assessment and supplier development actions to drive compliance risk management cost quality delivery and services targets.
• Partner with Category Managers to assess current supply base core competencies in the development of a longterm sourcing strategy of assigned categories.
• Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of technological developments and trends for guidance of commodity teams in advancements of design quality and manufacturing.
• Proactively review supplier capabilities assess operational gaps to identify risks and takes a systematic action to develop a world class supply base.
• Actively develops and coaches suppliers on how to meet CooperSurgicals quality system requirements and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) requirements to successfully complete validations.
• Act as a liaison between Supplier and Product Engineering on Strategic Sourcing projects designed to reduce supply risk and build a highquality supply base to support future growth.
• Manages projects of low to moderate complexity
• Partner with supplier and Product Engineering to assure part to engineering specifications match redline specifications and initiates engineering change orders as needed.
• Identify cost reduction opportunities in partnership with Category Managers internal stakeholders and suppliers to meet year over year cost targets.
• Perform additional responsibilities or assignments as directed by management.
• Take a supporting technical role in negotiating supply agreements statements of works and pricing for goods and/or services.
• Develop a should cost model process for assessment of purchased components.
• Engage with supplier on design of new tooling to assure CooperSurgicals expectations for tooling are met on NPD and legacy products as needed.
• Identify insourcing and outsourcing opportunities in partnership with Category Managers and Operations manufacturing strategy; supports technical component in the make/buy analysis.
• Take an active supporting role in Supplier Business Reviews
• Travel domestically and internationally upwards of 30.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

• Proficiency with metal and/or plastic part manufacturing methods tooling and assembly processes.
• Working knowledge of medical device NPI or lifecycle management processes
• Demonstrated working knowledge of supplier controls process validation failure investigation techniques root cause analysis corrective/preventive action procedures and protocol/report generation.
• Ability to manage projects of low to moderate complexity
• Familiarity with GD&T and interpreting drawings
• Computer Skills (Word Excel PowerPoint Smartsheet PLM system CAD (SolidWorks)
• Superb Oral and Written communication skills including presentation skills
• Ability to work in a team/partnership environment

Work Environment:

• Works in a hybrid environment with a mix of working at home 34 days per week and 12 days per week in the office at a Cooper Surgical location in the USA. Travel up to 30 is also part of this hybrid work scenario.
• Interacts with domestic and international suppliers frequently
• Travels frequently domestically and internationally as needed to support business requirements
• Occasionally lift up to 40 lbs
• Prolonged sitting in front of a computer

Experience:

• 6 years industry experience in medical device manufacturing/engineering or other highly regulated industry
• 3 years experience in a Metals Strategic Sourcing Engineer supplier development engineer or supplier quality engineer capacity preferably in the medical device industry
• Black Belt/Green Belt certification or Lean Six Sigma experience desired.

Education:

• Bachelors Degree or higher in Engineering Engineering Technology Science or technical field
