General Summary:

The Chicago High School for the Arts (ChiArts develops the next generation of artistically gifted diverse scholar artists through intensive pre professional training in the arts combined with a comprehensive college preparatory curriculum. The school approaches the development of students through a wholestudent approach and through a continuous learning environment for all staff to continuously develop their understanding of our scholarartists. We strive to build upon and improve our practices to make sure we are always serving all of our students to the best of our abilities

Qualifications

Position Summary:

ChiArts security team members assist with the supervision of students throughout the building. They are expected to establish trusting relationships with students and colleagues and address student misbehavior while adhering to school policies and procedures. Security personnel patrol school grounds escort students supervise building entrances and exits and complete daily checks pertaining to the safety and security of all students on campus. In cooperation with the Dean of Students support staff and teachers; security personnel will respond to staff and student reports of wrongdoing investigate student rulebreaking and support the dean of students and/or administration to promote good student conduct. Security Team personnel will be asked to report incidents they observe and provide written documentation of these matters. Security Team personnel will report directly to the Dean of Students.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with students ages 1218 in an educational or cocurricular program
  • Ability to adhere to school policies and a strong commitment to enforcing rules and promoting a safe school climate
  • Caring enthusiastic attitude and an ability to make decision quickly regarding the safety and security of students
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and positive interpersonal rapport
  • Familiarity with email (Google) and Microsoft Word and ability check accounts daily
  • Ability to communicate with faculty and staff of ChiArts HS and coshare building
  • Successful completion of restraint training and CPR or willingness to learn
  • Familiarity with restorative justice disciplinary approaches or willingness to learn
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teams and a diverse population
  • Ability to adapt and improve in changing situations
  • Proven organizational skills and attention to details

Responsibilities:

  • Embrace and promote the ChiArts vision mission educational approach and goals
  • Ensure that students and staff carry out expectations and duties as expected
  • Monitor student movement in the building via cameras walking the halls and checking restrooms/changing areas
  • Provide information to parties on matters that must be handled by administration Work in conjunction with other school security school officers dean of students office staff and assistant principal to ensure building and classrooms are free of students who not scheduled to those locations
  • Assists the principal and assistant principal as needed
  • Builds a rapport with businesses and community stakeholders to ensure students are ensured safe passages
