The Mission Systems Environmental Effects Engineering team at Collins Aerospace is looking for a Senior Electrical / Nuclear Effects Engineer to join our staff. This position will be responsible to support the multidisciplinary environment across different strategic business units within the company with their nuclear radiation hardness requirements capture design and test.

In this role you will be a key contributor to nuclear effectrelated activities working with a team of experienced nuclear survivability engineers for assigned projects and delivering comprehensive support from the design phase through qualification. You will advise on risk mitigation strategies including parts selection and circuit design optimization as well as conducting nuclear hardening analysis of components to determine testing requirements. Your responsibilities will include leading testing efforts in specialized environments such as Total Ionizing Dose Neutron Displacement Damage Ionizing Dose Rate and Neutron Single Event Effects while working closely with electrical design engineers to provide actionable circuit feedback. Youll collaborate with crossfunctional teams to integrate and qualify products and subsystems of moderate to high complexity. Additionally you will manage documentation including preparing and reviewing nuclear test plans and reports while contributing to Preliminary and Critical Design Reviews.

You will also play an important role in program pursuits and bid estimates translation of nuclear requirements and ensure hardness assurance throughout the product life cycle. Beyond technical duties you will utilize strong communication skills to support production services communicate technical results present findings to customers and midlevel managers and coordinate with departments such as Business Development Finance and Operations. This position requires you to independently handle multiple projects and tasks.

What You Will Do:

  • Serve assigned projects as a focal point for nuclear effects related activities including:

    • Contribute to program pursuits and bid estimates

    • Requirements capture activities (review parse and translate nuclear requirements)

    • Provide support to program during Design phase

      • Advising on risk mitigation strategies including parts selection and circuit design features

      • Conduct nuclear hardening analysis of components to identify risk and testing needs

      • Conduct/lead testing activities

      • Work closely with electrical design engineers and provide circuit feedback

    • Documentation support for each assigned project including:

      • Preparation and review of nuclear test plans

      • Contribute to the development of the Preliminary and Critical Design Reviews

      • Conduct testing in the environments of Total Ionizing Dose Neutron Displacement Damage Ionizing Dose Rate and Neutron Single Event Effects

      • Conduct statistical analysis of data received

      • Develop and review test reports

    • Oversee implementation of hardness assurance throughout the life cycle of the product

      • Provide engineering assistance to production service and repair personnel

Qualifications YOU Must Have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science Technology Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree 14 years of relevant experience

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required

  • U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

  • Must be willing to travel 10 of the time

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or Physics

  • Experience with nuclear radiation effects

  • Understanding of electrical circuits

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Be capable of handson troubleshooting using engineering lab equipment (oscilloscopes signal generators etc)

  • Ability to read/understand electronic schematics

  • Experience with HCI and HCP marking and controls

  • Experience with component level nuclear analysis

  • Experienced testing per MILSTD883 at a component to box level in nuclear radiation environments

  • Ability to statistically reduce test data

  • Experience with MILSTD2169 and MILSTD3023 analysis and testing

  • Knowledge of CBRN contaminants decontamination and hardening

  • Possess excellent communication skills including the ability to write technical material and present to customers and midlevel managers

  • Be selfdirected able to meet cost schedule and performance objectives with minimal oversight

The salary range for this role is 124000 USD 250000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer including but not limited to the role function and associated responsibilities a candidates work experience location education/training and key skills.
