Job Description

JOB SUMMARY: The primary responsibility of this role is to lead the safety regulatory compliance and driver training programs of Action Resources and insure those programs:
  • Protect Action Resources associates and the public from the risk of harm or injury and mitigate safety risks
  • Lead to the accomplishment of established safety and compliance business metrics
  • Contribute to the realization of the organizations financial earning goals through the reduction of costs associated with accidents injuries and safety and regulatory related incidents.
Serves as the safety continuous process improvement subject matter expert and identifies areas of opportunity to address negative safety and regulatory performance trends of the driver fleet as well as shop and office associates.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborate with organization leaders in the development implementation and oversight of initiatives designed to meet and beat established safety and regulatory goals.
  • Develop and execute safety operating plans that drive positive trends in safety and regulatory compliance performance.
  • Implement processes that increase operational efficiencies within the Safety Department.
  • Utilize technology to identify aggressive driving behaviors that have the potential of resulting in accidents and injuries and address those behaviors through the coaching and mentoring of the associate(s) demonstrating those behaviors.
  • Develop and implement driver training programs that effectively prepare driver associates to safely perform the tasks associated with their work to meet the service expectations of customers and to legally execute work assignments.
  • Investigate accidents injuries and incidents determine the root cause of those events and identify action steps to be taken to prevent those events from occurring again.
  • Serve as the Emergency Coordinator in the event of a major safety event such as a hazardous materials spill a truck and trailer rollover or a natural or manmade disaster.
  • Create review and execute programs designed to insure full compliance with requirements established by regulatory agencies such as the Department of Transportation OSHA and the EPA.
  • Communicate regularly with company leaders and associates to keep them informed of safety and regulatory performance data and to keep the safety awareness level high within the organization.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor degree or 7 years of safety leader experience in lieu of degree requirement.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience as a health and safety professional within the transportation industry.
  • Minimum of 7 years of leadership experience.
  • Working knowledge of DOT regulations required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent leadership communication interpersonal organization and presentation skills required.
