Position Summary
Indiana University seeks a dynamic faculty leader to be part of the senior leadership team for universitywide research administration development compliance and other research initiatives and to spearhead research development and related services for the Bloomington campus. The position reports jointly to the Vice President for Research and the IU Bloomington Provost serves as a member of the research and campus cabinets and helps to ensure the closest collaboration between those two units and with the Bloomington faculty and academic leadership. The position requires an individual with a broad vision for research who is able to integrate programs on the Bloomington campus and encourage opportunities for collaboration with other campuses of Indiana University and other universities in the U.S. and elsewhere as well as the notforprofit and forprofit sectors. Duties include stimulating supporting and championing undergraduate graduate and faculty research and creative activities in all disciplines; providing strategic leadership for research; and expanding existing and developing new sources of research funding. This position is responsible for the promotion of new interdisciplinary collaborations and oversight and establishment of centers institutes and research programs. In addition this position is responsible for providing seed funding for faculty research identifying appropriate external funding sources and informing faculty about these opportunities and tracking research progress and other markers of excellence and academic impact. Indiana University Bloomington enrolls nearly 49000 students in its more than 1058 degree and certificate programs ranging from associate degrees to doctoral and professional degrees the most comprehensive range in Indiana. Currently there are over 1387 tenure/tenuretrack faculty on campus. IUBs faculty conduct leading research from the life sciences to the liberal arts; in the professions of public health law nursing informatics and computing education journalism medicine bench and social sciences and foreign languages; and in interdisciplinary collaborations on studies in philanthropy urban policy the environment biomedical engineering cancer research informatics and more. The external sponsored awards total last fiscal year on the Bloomington campus was $158 million out of more than $730 million for the entire university.
