The City of San Jos the Capital of Silicon Valley is one of the nations best managed cities and one of the top ten cities in which to live work and do business. The salary range for Staff Specialist is approximately $80174.64 $97493.76 annually. This amount includes an approximate five percent 5 ongoing nonpensionable pay. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates qualifications and experience.

This is a classbased recruitment. Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications for Staff Specialist will be added to the active Qualified Candidate Group and contacted when a departmentspecific vacancy becomes available. If you are in the current Qualified Candidate Group you will need to reapply in order to be considered for future vacancies. Staff Specialists perform paraprofessional administrative work of considerable complexity in various areas of public administration. An employee in this class performs a variety of administrative assignments related to the of administrative detail and assisting in departmental administrative service areas. A Staff Specialist may act as a lead to lowerlevel clerical classifications but is primarily an individual contributor with a high level of expertise in generalized office administration.

Position Duties

Minimum Qualifications

(These qualifications are typically required. An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to satisfactorily perform the duties of the job may be substituted.

Education and Experience

Two 2 years of undergraduate course work from an accredited college or university (equivalent to at least 60 semester units or 90 quarter units) AND three 3 years of experience in varied office clerical work. The three 3 years of experience must include one 1 year of experience assembling and verifying data for complex reports records or databases OR acting as a lead to clerical staff.

Acceptable Substitution

Additional experience assembling and verifying data for complex reports records or databases OR acting as a lead to clerical staff may be substituted for the education requirement on a yearforyear basis.

A bachelors degree from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required experience.
