Job Description: Senior Engineer Power Evacuation Planning (Renewable Energy Projects)

Job Overview:

The Senior Engineer Power Evacuation Planning is responsible for designing planning and implementing the power evacuation infrastructure for renewable energy projects including solar wind and hybrid power plants. This role involves assessing grid connectivity coordinating with transmission utilities ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and optimizing power evacuation strategies to maximize efficiency and reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

Power Evacuation Planning & Design:
  • Conduct feasibility studies for power evacuation from renewable energy projects to the nearest substation/grid.
  • Design transmission and distribution network solutions including substations transmission lines and switchyards.
  • Perform load flow analysis grid impact assessments and network stability studies.
Regulatory & Compliance Coordination:
  • Ensure compliance with state and central grid codes CERC/SERC regulations and transmission policies.
  • Obtain necessary approvals from agencies such as CTU STU PGCIL DISCOMs and SLDC/RLDC for grid connectivity.
  • Manage regulatory submissions including grid connection applications load flow studies and power evacuation agreements.
Liaison with Authorities & Stakeholders:
  • Coordinate with government bodies transmission utilities and regulatory agencies for securing grid connectivity.
  • Work closely with project developers EPC contractors and O&M teams to align power evacuation strategies with project timelines.
  • Liaise with DISCOMs and transmission utilities for power purchase agreements (PPAs) and transmission agreements.
Technical Analysis & System Studies:
  • Conduct network studies fault level analysis and relay coordination for safe and stable power evacuation.
  • Evaluate transmission losses voltage stability and reactive power compensation requirements.
  • Use software tools like ETAP PSS/E PSCAD or DIgSILENT for power system simulations and analysis.
Project & Site Supervision:
  • Support site teams in implementing power evacuation infrastructure including substations transmission lines and switchgear.
  • Monitor grid integration activities and resolve technical issues related to transmission and connectivity.
  • Ensure adherence to safety quality and performance standards during power evacuation infrastructure development.
Risk Assessment & Mitigation:
  • Identify potential risks in power evacuation planning and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Assess grid congestion curtailment risks and evacuation bottlenecks to ensure uninterrupted power flow.
  • Develop contingency plans for alternative power evacuation routes in case of unforeseen challenges.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems.
  • 612 years of experience in power evacuation planning for renewable energy projects (solar/wind).
  • Strong understanding of grid codes transmission planning and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience working with government agencies like CTU STU SLDC RLDC and PGCIL.
