Wofford College established in 1854 is a fouryear residential liberal arts college located in Spartanburg South Carolina. It offers 27 major fields of study to a student body of 1874 undergraduates. Wofford College invites applications for a oneyear position as a Visiting Assistant Professor or Visiting Instructor in Philosophy. The position is designed to allow philosophers to gain valuable teaching experience at a selective liberal arts college. In turn visiting philosophers enhance the Wofford curriculum and the philosophy department with fresh perspectives and unique expertise.
A strategic goal of the college is to increase and support diversity throughout the college community. The search committee strongly encourages applications from all those whose presence or identity is underrepresented in the profession.
EXPECTATIONS
The visiting assistant professor or instructor will teach four courses per term (typically two preps): three introductorylevel courses capped at 20 or 24 and one upperlevel seminar capped at 15. Visitors have no committee duties. They are fulltime employees of the college and receive salary and employment benefits. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. As a visitor within the Wofford philosophy department the successful applicant will have use of an office and a personal computer provided by the college.
The position begins in Fall 2025 and runs for two 14week semesters (Fall and Spring) with a six to sevenweek break between the fall and spring semesters. The visiting professor/instructor will have no obligations to the college or the department during the fourweek January term.
