Job Description

Position Title: Lecturer (Forensic Investigations/Criminal Justice and Legal Studies)

Department: Criminal Justice and Legal Studies

Campus Location:Washburn University

Position Summary: Washburn University School of Applied Studies (SAS) invites applications for the position of Forensic Investigations Lecturer in Criminal Justice and Legal Studies to begin August 1 2025. This is a 9month fulltime faculty appointment. There is possible conversion to tenure track after three years if applicant meets qualifications for promotion to Assistant Professor.

Each selected candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to pursuing teaching excellence at Washburn University including a dedication to developing teaching practices that engage students from all backgrounds.

The Criminal Justice and Legal Studies Department relies on faculty who have real world experience to help students gain the necessary theoretical practical and critical thinking skills to be successful in careers in law enforcement corrections security administration forensic investigations and the law.

Essential Functions:
Teach 12 credit hours per semester (either inperson or online according to departmental needs) or equivalent full workload as outlined in the faculty handbook.
Provide academic advising to students hold oncampus office hours at least 3 days per week in accordance with department policies attend meetings and fulfill service expectations associated with nontenuretrack appointment by engaging in service activities in the department school university and profession.
Reports to the Department Chair.
Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience
Perform additional jobrelated duties as assigned or as appropriate.

Required Qualifications:
Masters degree in Forensic Science Criminal Justice or a closely related field.
Occupational experience in the field of crime scene investigations. Other forensic science field experience may be considered.
Demonstrated dedication to developing teaching practices that engage students from all backgrounds.
Official educational transcripts will be required at time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
Postsecondary teaching experience in forensic science criminal justice and/or professional settings.
Certificate from the International Association for Identification or a similar forensic organization.
Ph.D. in Criminal Justice or closely related field.
