Job Description
The Barney School of Business seeks a Tenuretrack Assistant Professor of Accounting with teaching research and service responsibilities. Successful candidates are expected to teach accounting information systems and a variety of other accounting courses depending on need.
Responsibilities
The Barney School offers facetoface day and evening classes as well as asynchronous classes. The teaching load for the position is 33. Faculty course loads generally represent a combination of both graduate and undergraduate courses. Although many graduate courses are offered online faculty should be prepared to teach in both online and facetoface modalities depending on course coverage requirements. To be successful faculty are expected to meet and maintain the Scholarly Academic classification under AACSB International accreditation requirements by engaging in scholarly research. In addition to teaching and research faculty must also participate in Departmental School and University service and interact with the Greater Hartford Region business community. This is not a remote position. There will also be opportunities to teach in our innovative University Interdisciplinary Studies program. Applicants should describe in their letter of intent how their teaching and/or scholarship will support inclusive excellence at the University of Hartford in the Barney School of Business and in the community.
Required Qualifications
The successful candidate must have the following credentials: 1. Education: A Doctoral degree in accounting by 8/15/2025 is required. Applicants nearing completion of the doctorate ABD in accounting may be considered; a clear and reasonable plan for degree completion by 8/15/2025 should be included in the application. For continued employment in the tenuretrack position the doctorate must be completed by 8/15/2025. 2. Scholarly Activity: Expected to meet and maintain the Scholarly Academic classification under AACSB International accreditation requirements by engaging in scholarly research. Please include a detailed scholarship agenda in the application. 3. Experience/Interests: Candidates are expected to have experience and/or interests in teaching accounting information systems courses and other courses depending on departments needs for course coverage. Note: Items 13 above are needed to meet AACSB requirements for faculty qualifications. 4. Consistency with inclusive excellence goals. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to inclusive excellence as well as an ability to teach mentor and work with a diverse population of students. The application will be reviewed to determine the candidates consistency with the University school and departments inclusive excellence goals. Candidates with the following credentials are preferred: 1. Technological Proficiency: Demonstrated competence in the use of Excel and/or experience working with data analytics tools. 2. Work Experience and/or Credentials: Accounting professional work experience that is substantial in terms of duration and level of responsibility and/or professional certifications such as Certified Public Accountant CPA . 3. Teaching experience in a variety of accounting courses. 4. Applicant expresses interest in developing coursework incorporating current issues in Accounting. NOTE : These credentials are preferred and will be considered after all required minimum requirements are met.
