Adjunct Faculty Surgical Technologist Program
Salary:$5000 $6000 per 5 credits
Department:Healthcare
Reports to:Dean of Nursing and Allied Health
Proposed starting date:Spring 2025

Olympic College enrolls a racially and socioeconomically diverse student body of approximately 10500 students annually. Among them 4 are African American 5 Latinx 1 are Native American/Alaska Native 1 are Pacific Islander 7 are Asian 62 are White and 15 are multiracial. A comprehensive community college we offer instruction in Basic Studies to include awarding a high school diploma GED preparation and English to Speakers of Other Languages; academic transfer and workforce education degrees and certificates; four applied baccalaureate degrees and community education in our twocounty region.

Job Summary
The Adjunct Faculty Surgical Technology Program is responsible for providing quality instruction to students in classroom laboratory and clinical settings. This position plays a key role in preparing students for careers as surgical technologists by delivering engaging coursework handson skill training and clinical supervision. The faculty member will work closely with the Program Director and other faculty to ensure compliance with accreditation standards through ARC/STSA (Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting) and CAHEEP (Committee on Accreditation of Health Education Programs) and institutional policies.

Essential Functions


  • Provide instruction in Surgical Technology courses including lecture lab and clinical settings.
  • Develop and deliver course materials that align with program objectives accreditation requirements and industry standards.
  • Assess student performance through exams practical demonstrations and competency evaluations.
  • Supervise and mentor students during clinical rotations to ensure proper skill development and adherence to patient safety protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress attendance and evaluations in accordance with college policies.
  • Assist with curriculum development and program assessment to maintain accreditation compliance.
  • Stay updated with advancements in surgical technology and integrate new best practices into instruction.
  • Participate in faculty meetings training and professional development activities.
  • Provide academic advising and support to students as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates degree or higher in Surgical Technology accredited by a recognized programmatic accreditation agency;
  • Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA);
  • Minimum of three 3 years of clinical experience either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology or a combination of both within the past five 5 years;
  • Strong communication organizational and interpersonal skills;
  • Knowledge of curriculum and program evaluation of student learning and performance;
  • Commitment to student success and inclusive teaching practices; and
  • Proficiency with instructional technology Microsoft Office Suites and learning management systems (LMS).

Preferred Qualification
  • Bachelors degree in a healthcarerelated field.
  • Prior teaching experience in higher education particularly in a community college setting.
  • Experience with curriculum development and accreditation processes.
  • Experience in clinical coordination or supervision.

Faculty members mustsubmitofficial unopened transcripts to the Human Resources department within30 daysof their employment.

This is an adjunct faculty position contracted on a quarterly basis.Placement on the faculty salary schedule will becommensuratewith educational background and experience. The salary listed is a range based on per quarter. A collective bargaining agreement exists and this position is covered by the Association for Higher Education (AHE).Flexibility is required to meet the needs of the department.Evening and/or weekend classes instruction at satellite Olympic College campuses and offcampus assignments including travel to clinical sites may be a part of the instructional load.

Adjunct positions at the college are open continuously and reviewed on a quarterbyquarter basis.Individuals who apply to the applicant pool are considered active for a period of 12 months from the application date and may be contacted when vacancies occur.Applying does not guarantee that a position will be available or offered.

Adjuncts are not eligible for benefits upon theirinitialhireAdjunct faculty must work 50 percent of a fulltime load for two consecutive quarters to become eligible.Additionalhours earned at other SBCTC colleges may count towards this requirement.
